Lighting Specialists Australia Professional design solutions by qualified and registered lighting professionals(MIES/RLP)

Lighting Specialists Australia (LSAU) has a team of experienced qualified and registered professionals (MIES and RLP) with diverse backgrounds (including architecture, interior, mining, sports, road and building lighting). We are dedicated to develop total concepts in visual perception and converting them into real experiences. Our in-house design skills include lighting design for office, facade,

Heritage, architecture, workshops, Sport stadiums, roads and paths, stockyards, conveyors, transfer stations, crushers, open pit, jetty and wharf lighting for mining areas. We provide concepts, modify architectural rendered impressions to simulate completed projects, and simulate environments through computer modelling. Computer modelling includes calculation of lighting level as well as computer generated 3-D colour rendered images. Our computer simulations can be for electric light, sunlight, daylight and the combination of solar and electric light. Design of sustainable and practical lighting for mining areas, processing plants and onshore facilities requires good understanding of the Australian standards, mining lighting requirements and the mining environmental conditions. Careful consideration needs to be taken to address Occupational Health and Safety issues on site. Lighting Specialists Australia provides sensible lighting design in line with the Client’s target to minimize potential harm in the workplace, and the same time give proper consideration to the environmental aspects of the lighting.

Dwellingup skatepark and pump track lighting.

Skate Park lights and lighting systems differ in many ways from the typical, flat athletic field systems and there’s no specific Australian lighting standard for Skateparks. An appropriately scaled skate park lighting system generally increases the aesthetics to the general public as a public place. Ramps, stairs, ledges, bowls and other features within a skate park create shadows. These shadows, if left unaddressed, may become a safety concern. A detailed photometric study was performed to ensure these areas are all areas safely lit.

The topic of lights can be a catalyst for public debate, particularly at skateparks proposed or built near residences. It was decided that 100lux should be ample illumination. A lighting control system to configure lights to warn park patrons that they will turn off so that they can stop skating was used. Having the lights turn off abruptly and without warning can put park users at risk.

Effective, glare free lighting with no spill light onto neighbouring properties was provided throughout skatepark and pump track areas. This includes skating elements, ramps, stairs, ramps, pathways, ect as well as areas that may pose a safety risk, such as pedestrian and vehicle conflict areas.

Parkland at Princess Wallington Reserve offers a skate plaza facility, a junior and advanced BMX track, multi-courts, parkour area, regional playground, unique public art, barbecue areas, public toilets and drink fountains. With such a unique mix of facilities, it really requires a unique lighting solution.

These facilities have historically been subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour and consultation to date has found that safety and security is a primary concern for users of the site. Crime Prevention and vandalism through design was critical to be integrated into the design in accordance with the WA Police State CCTV Strategy to the development of the Parklands and create a safe, welcoming space for the community.
City of Stirling requirement was that the Community Parkland to be lit to enable safe, night-time use of elements of the site and deter anti-social behaviour in accordance with relevant latest Australian standards.
From the very early concept meetings the luminaire quality against vandalism and performance requirements of the lighting were identified as key objectives. A carefully considered lighting concept from the stage of project inception, not only added excitement to the design, but also helped promote wellbeing of users.

LSAU’s Specialist Lighting team used 4000K Cree and Igguzzini LED luminaires to provide a white light in compliance with the project lighting standards. This colour temperature dramatically improved the perception of safety, with the contemporary, clean looking luminaires improving the aesthetics around the Parkland and discouraging troublesome or illegal behaviour. The selected light fittings minimized the upward waste light, saving energy and improving aesthetics for nearby residential areas.

The lighting in the whole space is controlled and monitored by a Telensa control system wireless controls system, this increasing energy savings by up to 30% and cutting maintenance costs with automatic fault alerts and self-diagnosis. Controls also provide accurate energy metering and service level statistics for auditing LED investment performance. Each type of light is on a different control channel, allowing levels of lighting to be easily controlled and monitored by City of Stirling throughout the night.
Be it the functional or aesthetic lighting the key limitations were delivering a cost effective, low energy use, original and well-integrated lighting solution that meets the brief, address security/safety issues and withstand the vandalism elements.
Through working closely with the lighting / control’s suppliers, the project was installed well within the budget provided. We did not have to compromise the integrity of the design as the key requirement for the project was to provide a high level of amenity.
