Wild roads. Wild waterfalls. Wild West.

Hey Siri, define 'the road less travelled'.
We give you, The Western Explorer. This route links Stanley in Visit North West Tasmania with Strahan, leading you through some of Tassie's most remote, isolated but breathtakingly beautiful areas.
It's worth noting that while the roads are well-signed, you should be mindful of changing weather, ensure you have plenty of fuel and be prepared to take it slow.

Take a drive West.

The West Coast is a place where you can experience high levels of adrenaline or total serenity. Today, we choose the latter. There's nothing like quietly cruising the dark, calm waters with the cool air hitting your cheeks, surrounded by pristine wilderness.

Shorter days. Gushing waterfalls. Damp earth. Fiery fagus. Beanies. Gloves. Local storytellers and slow days. It's all waiting here, ready for your next roadtrip.

The Tourism Industry Council Tasmania Tassie's Top Tourism Town competition is back for 2024 and this year, Queenstown is crowned as a finalist. It's a place where nature's beauty meets industrial revolution, rugged charm meets untamed wilderness and adrenaline junkies meet their limits. In other words, just outside your comfort zone.
Voting is now open so if you like things a little left of centre, be sure to throw Queenstown a vote via this link https://bit.ly/4dmlcdq
If you like to take the road less travelled then the Western Explorer could be for you. The route links Stanley in @visitnorthwesttasmania with Strahan via some of Tasmania's most picturesque and isolated areas.
The mostly white dirt road is rugged and remote, so drivers should consider their vehicle, driving experience and preparedness before committing to the journey. If you're planning your first trip West, there are plenty of more conventional options but for those seeking adventure, it's always waiting.

Rolling into the long weekend.
Where are you headed?

There are waterfalls, and then there's Lover's Falls. Though not the mightiest of falls, the journey to get there is all part of the magic.
Still need convincing? This footage by @troopysurfari should do the trick 🚣♀️
Spending a few days in Strahan? Here’s just a taste of what you can get up to:
▪️Walk through the rainforest to Nelson Falls
▪️Wander the foreshore
▪️Take a moment (or many) to gaze at boats bobbing in the harbour
▪️See Australia’s longest running play, The Ship That Never Was
▪️Watch the sunset over the ocean
▪️Enjoy a spot of shopping
And that’s before you’ve even had time to enjoy the mighty Gordon River or @westcoastwildernessrailway.
Time to escape for a while? Head to our website to get planning.

Pristine West Coast camp ground
One of the most pristine, not-so-secret camping spots you'll find in all of Tasmania. Can you name it?
Amazing footage captured by @czechausout
The best part about making the journey West? Pitstops like this.
Nelson Falls is located between Derwent Bridge and Queenstown off the Lyell Highway. 20 minutes is all you'll need to stretch your legs and marvel at the falls.
Captured by @brontieandwill as they did just that.

The journey West is like no other. And while you'll need a few hours behind the wheel to get here, the adventures you can experience along the way will have you feeling like it's no time. Think Cradle Mountain, waterfalls, historic towns, wildlife encounters, pristine waterways and so much more.
Approximate driving times are as follows:
-Around 4 hours from Hobart & Beyond
-Around 3 hours from Visit Northern Tasmania
-Around 2.5 hours from Visit North West Tasmania
And remember, when you get here, it just gets better. Drop your West Coast road trip tales below.

@jaydisolis hitting us right in the feels with these words and images - "The West Coast isn’t just a place; it’s an enigmatic blend of magic, quirk, creativity, darkness, and rugged mystery. There’s this unexplainable feeling that grips you when you hit the mountains. Now, with the buzz of new MTB trails on Mount Owen, the place has lifted even further. Locals are welcoming, eager to chat, sharing stories about the history, their passions, and why they adore this corner of the state. So, if it's been a while or you are yet to spend much time there, do yourself a solid and venture to Queenstown for a unique weekender - it’s a gem "
