Early Saturday morning turf prep. Last day at Hibberd Street Hamilton.
Citrus pruning. Getting in early today before the heat hits. If you know your Landscape well then try and plan your work in the shade and stay hydrated. Wasn’t easy yesterday, today will be no different however I have plenty of shade.
Just dropped into my mums house to pick up some pots I left there a few weeks ago. I opened up the side gate and was greeted by this display of colour. When I was last there only some of the roses were in bloom, the Daisy’s had a few buds, the buddleas were getting ready to explode and many salvias were just getting close to bursting into life. There is such a contrast between the front garden and the back. The front garden is featured on my website www.floriangardens.com.au homepage. In an ever changing and harsh climate and with gardens taking a modern approach in style, structure and water wise planting there has been a decline in what was seen as a very contemporary form of Australia garden brought to us by our first English settlers, The Cottage Garden.
This particular style is originally quite distinctive from the formal garden in its design concepts. Strictly informal, using a dense planting scheme with lots of colour and incorporating a mix of bulbs, annuals, perennials, ornamentals, herbs and other associated edible plants. We have all seen, talked about, been in or tried to plant a cottage garden. The myth for me is that is low maintenance, I often find that this particular style of garden can require more maintaining as the fine line between meandering and unkept is a fine one to achieve the look. One main factor in achieving success as with this amazing garden is the plant selection. The underlining key to all great gardens.. Plants, right plant right aspect.

3 month build duration April 2015 to August 2015 including both soft and hard landscapes. Key features New Hardwood Hut with new raised planter box including BBQ facilities, mini fruit orchards, new paving and screening from the street, LED lighting through all garden beds and an automatic watering system with rain sensors. Client brief was to improve and increase garden size, reduce the lawn, create outdoor living space for poolside entertaining and create privacy along front boundaries. All ongoing garden maintenance is on a quarterly basis which also includes lawn and plant fertiliser, mulching and all forms of weed and pest control.
