2 sleeps to go folks, and great to see our friends at The Inland Fisheries Service are helping with fresh stocks of rainbow trout in some of our popular waters.

Need help finding them or catching them? Don't forget the members of TGALT will be happy to help you out.

Tight lines to you all.

Over 5000 rainbow trout were released into Meadowbank Lake today. These fat fish will provide some great fishing. In the past few weeks rainbow trout have been released into waters close to population centres including Lake Kara, Brushy Lagoon, Lake Dulverton and Craigbourne Lake. This compliments t...

One of the ways we can all contribute to a sustainable trout fishery in Tasmania is by keeping records of our fishing success (or failures!)

The Inland Fisheries Service have incorporated an Angler Diary into their popular InFish App.

Check it out.

The Inland Fisheries Service is committed to obtaining accurate information that enables active management of the trout fishery. An angler diary has long been recognised as a way that anglers can record where, when and how they have fished. This enables them to reflect, gather information and build....

With the new fishing season shortly upon us there are a few critical messages from Hydro Tasmania. While we might take the Hydro's waterways for granted, it pays to regularly check the Hydro website to see if there's anything you might need to be across as you prepare for your next fishing expedition.

And remember, members of TGALT are also there to help you with your trout fishing plans.

A reminder to check Hydro Tasmania alerts before embarking on a fishing trip. The following alerts will be of particular interest: Woods Lake Hydro Tasmania continues to monitor a non-toxic blue-green algae bloom at Woods Lake. While the bloom is non-toxic, direct contact or consumption of blue-gree...

During their recent visit, Jo and Steve Starling from Starlo's Fishotopia spent days fishing with some of TGALT's guides.

This video features their day with Rod Turton from Trout Flat Out on the Derwent River chasing sea-run trout and black bream. Check it out.

We join Rod Turton of Trout Flat Out to hunt black bream and sea-run brown trout in Hobart's Derwent estuary. Catching these two fish side-by-side is an amaz...

Jo and Steve Starling from Starlo's Fishotopia were part of the celebrations at the Central Highlands Lodge a couple of weekends ago, coinciding with the Great Lake Tie In.

Their Tales of Scales evening was a great success and a number of lucky attendees went home with a range of prizes from local businesses.

A few more images from the recent Great Lake Tie In. One of the major features of the Tie In was a competition to tie the best Blue Damsel Fly. Around 20 entrants were scrutinised by judges Steve Starling and Roger Butler before Ken Orr made the final adjudication.

Tim Urbanc from the Tasmanian Fly Tyers was eventually chosen as the winner and becomes the first name to go on the Graham Blight Memorial Trophy

A very big weekend up in the Central Highlands. With the Great Lake Tie in on Saturday, TGALT and Tourism Tasmania organised for Steve and Jo Starling from Starlo's Fishotopia to visit Tasmania and attend the Tie Inn. They also attended an event on the Friday night at the Central Highlands Lodge where Steve and Jo shared some of their fishing tales.

Despite the rain preventing a few guests from Launceston making their way up the mountain, it was still a great weekend for the trout fishing community.

One of the important elements of the trout fishing scene in Tasmania is the Angler Access program run by Troutfish Tasmania . Unfortunately access points in various parts of the State have been impacted by the recent deluge.

IFS have issued the attached good advice that we'd like you to be mindful of.

The floods that have struck much of Tasmania are likely to have caused significant damage to Anglers Access infrastructure on northern rivers. Anglers should be aware of erosion, debris and high water.  Inland Fisheries staff will be out and about assessing damage over coming weeks and planning...

It's always good to keep track of where the fish are going. The IFS offer up regular advice on where they have stocked waters. This is their comprehensive report for 2021.

Without this work we would find many of our Tasmanian waters offering us far fewer fish!

https://www.ifs.tas.gov.au/news/2022/jun/24/stocking-report-2021

The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) recognises the value of maintaining wild fisheries as they are best suited to our environment and provide a much sought-after angling experience. We only stock waters when wild populations are not adequately maintained by natural recruitment and we use wild fish wh...

TGALT's membership is not limited to guides and lodges. The Association also welcomes affiliate members - businesses and organisations that are linked to recreational trout fishing in Tasmania.

We're pleased to be able to add Launceston's Trophy Trout Lures to our membership.

Trophy Trout Lures is a retail fishing outlet in the Launceston suburb of Invermay. They stock a great range of lures, tackle and equipment for freshwater, estuary and light saltwater angling. They also proudly stock a wide range of quality flies that are professionally hand tied in Tasmania.

Last weekend The Central Highlands Council held the annual Bushfest in Bothwell. It is an event with a strong focus on the types of experiences on offer in the Central Highlands and, naturally, trout fishing was part of the conversation.

TGALT was present for the two days, promoting its members, but also generally encouraging participation in trout fishing. Although a few other organisations were notable for their absence, TGALT flew the flag.

After seeing multiple cancellations of trout related events thanks to Covid, it was great to see Central Highlands Council make this commitment - and welcome 4,500 visitors to the event.

Oh, and Ken Orr did a fantastic job as MC for the event for the two days!

One of the great Fly Fishing events in Tassie is the Great Lake Tie-In. It's a poignant event this year as it will pay tribute to Graham Blight who was a trailblazer in the Trout Fishing industry in Tasmania.

TGALT is proudly sponsoring prizes for Fly tiers this year to help Graham's Fly tying legacy live on.

Hope we see you there.
