Our holiday to Antartica has come to an end. We finished off with a couple of days in Buenos Aires where we visited the Womens Bridge, which is a rotating bridge. The Japanese gardens and and the Recoleta Cemetery which we had a view from our apartment balcony.

Today is our last stop and we're in Patagonia Bay at Antwerp Island. Here are some photos from our zodiac tour. This is our final destination in Antarctica before heading back through the Drake Passage. The sea forecast is for light seas.

Champagne, glaciers and Penguins, all in a day with Ponant in Antarctica. We were surprised on our zodiac tour with a stop for a glass of champagne while cruising through the glaciers. Another visit with the penguins, this time it's Gentoo penguins with their chicks. Some had two chicks. Then watching them go up and down their 'Penguin Highways' to the water.

Our first real sighting of whales in Antarctica. The Captain stops the ship so we can see them. There're so many pairs feeding around here ship.

Our last stop in South Georgia was in St Andrews Bay where it snowed. It's the first time I have walked in a swow storm. None of the willife seemed to mind but what a lovely sight with everything covered in a light layer of snow. Next stop is the South Shetland islands.

Today we visited Grytviken and Ocean Harbour in South Georgia. Grytviken is an old whaling station. Over the years, when it was working, 175,000 whales were processed. The site now sits abandoned with rusted tanks, a church, museum and post office. It is the resting place of Sir Ernest Shackleton and home to may fur seals and elephant seals. In the afternoon we had a zodiac tour to Ocean Harbour, looking at the wildlife.

Hello from South Georgia, where, Allan and I are on a 17 night, Ponant Expedition cruise to Antarctica.

Our first stop was Falkland Islands and now we are doing several zodiac landings in South Georgia.

The abundance of wildlife is wonderful, several different species of penguins, fur seals, elephant seals, albatross to name a few. We get up close to these beautiful animals and I love to watch the seals playing.

Ponant is a French, small ship cruise line, we have under 200 passengers on board. They also have no single supplement on select cruises, so are perfect for solo travellers.

Hello from the Mekong Delta on Emerald Harmony

We are coming to the end of our cruise.

We are in Angkor Ban, where we explore its historical rural wooden houses which survived the Khmer Rouge and visit a classroom that teaches English to the local children. We sat with the children and heard them read and some came to the front of the class to tell us what they want to do when they grow up. In the village temple we received a traditional Buddhist blessing from the temple’s resident monks. In the afternoon we set sail to our final destination, Peam Chi Korng located further upstream on the Mekong River.

All good things come to an end, we have had a great time with Emerald Cruises, exploring Vietnam and Cambodia. We have a couple of days in Siem Reap before returning to Sydney. I will be back in the office Monday morning for any enquiries about this wonderful experience.

Hello from the Mekong on Emerald Harmony.

Today we arrived in Cambodia's capital, Phnon Penh. The city was almost entirely evacuated by the Khmer Rouge in 1975. Today we learnt about Khmer Rouge and the darkest days in the countries history.

We visited the Killing Fields at Choeng Ek and the Genocide Museum (also known as S-21) at Tuoi Sleng. This was not a pleasant day and I won't be sharing any photos.

In the evening we went on a local remok (local Tuk Tuk) ride through Phnom Penh to see the city lights. This was a hairy experience, they are mad drivers.

Hello from the Mekong Delta on Emerald Harmony

This morning we are back on a sampan to Evergreen Island for a walk through a local village to get a glimpse into the lives of the local farming community. Their homes are built in stilts as the area floods. The family we visited had three cows, they owned one and looked after the other two and when sold they shared the profits.

We reboard the sampan to travel back to Tan Chau and visit the recently renovated Cao Dai temple. Next we ride in a Xe Loi (local form of cyclo) from the temple back to your sampan, this was the most uncomfortable ride of the whole trip.

Later today we cross the Vietnam/Cambodia Border.

Day Three from the Mekong Delta on Emerald Harmony

This afternoon we headed to Gieng Island in our Sampan, where we travelled through the island’s villages to visit families who work in a variety of local industries including boat building of different types and creating incense sticks for temples. We also visited Vietnam’s oldest church.

We finished the day on the sundeck of the ship as the sun was setting watching a Lion dance from a local company.
