Shire Over-Reach in Lancelin

"Council will be considering a private landowner proposal to protect and beautify their coastal property (see pic) on Gingin Road in Lancelin at tomorrow’s Council meeting. Disturbingly, the proposal has been recommended for refusal. This position seems to have largely come about because of the unsubstantiated speculative views of Shire officers; their consultants tasked with putting the kybosh on future unsubstantiated development for the site.

The proposal, which primarily involves fill secured by landscaping treatments, water tanks for reticulation and site fencing looks like it would have nothing other than a positive impact on a currently largely vacant and unattractive site and should be applauded by the Shire not refused. This is a prominent vacant site in the township and the proposal would add enhance the appearance and should be supported.

Should we allow the Shire to impose their will on privately owned properties through the pre-conceived unsubstantiated notions of their staff and a planning framework which fundamentally and egregiously compromises the control of many peoples most important assets?

Councillors, please stand up for your constituent’s rights; get out of the way and let people get on with legitimately improving their properties."

LANCELIN SPARED LENGTHY POWER OUTAGES

While many residents on the eastern side of Indian Ocean Drive suffered power outages for days this week, these standby power generators were the saviour for Lancelin. They have been in for a few months now and kicked in when the power was interrupted a number of days ago. If you had your power interrupted for more than 12 hours, make sure you lodge your claim with Western Power.

CAMERAS GALORE

If you're driving on Indian Ocean Drive today, beware of this mega-camera set-up not far from the turn off to Seabird. I asked the local Lancelin police about it but it was news to them too, having been placed there by state traffic police.

I reckon the low cameras are to ping speeders and the overhead cameras to catch phone users. Can you confirm this?
