São Paulo is a city that never sleeps and has a vibrant energy of a thousand stories woven together in Brazil’s cultural heart. This sprawling metropolis is a true blend of contrasts; towering skyscrapers standing proudly beside colonial architecture, lush parks nestled amidst urban dynamism and quiet, cozy cafés that emerge from bustling streets.

A walk down Avenida Paulista reveals a melting pot of art, history and the avant-garde, with galleries, museums and street art adding colour to every corner. São Paulo’s neighbourhoods, from the bohemian charm of Vila Madalena to the sleek sophistication of Jardins, offer a taste of the city’s rich diversity. Designed by the architect Francisco Ramos de Azevedo, the Mercado Municipal is stunning example of eclectic industrial architecture and has thousands of food items on display beautifully.

In São Paulo, every moment feels alive with passion and possibility. One can feel the city's pulse through the samba, the flavours and the stories waiting to be discovered.

Hanoi, often called the "City of Eternal Harmony," is a place where the echoes of ancient traditions meet the bustling vibrancy of modern life. As you wander through the narrow, winding streets of the Old Quarter, you’re transported back to a time when merchants traded silk and spices and temples dedicated to literature and wisdom flourished.

The iconic Hoan Kiem Lake, shrouded in myth, lies at the heart of the city, where locals perform their morning exercises under the watchful gaze of the Turtle Tower. Every corner of Hanoi offers a new scene—quaint tea shops tucked beside French colonial villas and bustling night markets alive with the scents of freshly cooked street food.

You’ll certainly want to see the Temple of Literature, the serene gardens of the Imperial Citadel and the maze of markets that fill the city with colour and life. Hanoi is like a poem, waiting to be unraveled, inviting you to linger a while and feel its timeless soul!

The Netherlands has more than 1200 windmills … they define Holland and its landscape and have done since the Middle Ages. The first one appeared in 1221! There are two types; industrial, to grind grain, make paper and saw wood and polder mills, to pump water in order to drain the land.

There’s something rather special about seeing the very tall and rather graceful windmills up close, especially knowing they have withstood centuries.

For any interested traveller, visiting these windmills is allowed if they fly a blue flag (others can also be visited on ‘National Windmill Day’) and some can even host visitors overnight - that would be rather fun!

If you’re like me, a lover of history, breathtaking views and, of course, wish to see windmills, here’s my tip: go to Zaanse Schans, the best place to see traditional Dutch windmills near Amsterdam. You can easily get there by train and bike and there is an open-air museum with several well-preserved historic windmills, many still operational, along with traditional workshops and museums.

This city has been called ‘The Fairytale City’, due to its romantic charm, rich cultural heritage and imperial architecture, but also due to the fact that right in the centre of Vienna is The Spanish Riding School, the training ground for the majestic and gallant white horse, The Lipizzaner, not only one of the oldest breeds in Europe, but also the most common horse to be seen in fairytales!

Each avenue, lined with grandiose architecture and quaint cafes, invites you to step back in time. Vienna’s streets tell a story of art, music and imperial grandeur; it wouldn’t be difficult to imagine Mozart or Beethoven pass you by!

The ‘must sees’ here, during a trip along the Ringstrasse, are the Vienna State Opera, the Museum of Natural History and Art History, Parliament, the Burgtheater and City Hall. Also not to be missed, as well as being pretty amazing, are the palaces and parks of the Habsburg era. The Habsburgs, being the most important family in European History, amassed some seriously incredible real estate!

Vienna is like a reading a story … take your time and let yourself become immersed.

Zdravo from Montenegro, home to one of the world’s oldest olive trees, over 2,000 years old and still growing in Bar!

I’ve been exploring Kotor’s old town (originally known as Cattaro). Someone said today they found it achingly atmospheric; strange words but not untrue! It’s a mix of medieval museums, churches and quaint squares, as well as Venetian palaces and pillories; quite stunning really. I climbed up to Kotor Fortress (San Giovanni) - about 1,350 steps to the top – a tough hike for me, but so worth it for the view of the Bay of Kotor.

I then went to Perast, a town of only 250 inhabitants, absolutely packed with history and legend and a sharp contrast to Kotor. It is beautifully preserved and too small for cruise ships, so it remains quiet. I took a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks, a church on a tiny island, the origins of which remain a mystery, but it has been called the most picturesque island in the whole of Europe!

I’m staying at Hotel Forza Mare; it’s right on the waterfront of the Bay of Kotor – magical place. Early to my pillow tonight as I’m up early for a long drive inland to the Biogradska Gora National Park, one of Europe’s 3 remaining virgin forests which, due to being mainly untouched, has a very mature ecosystem. I’m excited to go there – there are 9 glacial lakes, 86 kinds of trees and 150 kinds of birds!

To awaken in solitude is to embrace a moment of pure peace, where the world is still and the only sound is your own breath. It’s in this quiet that we find the space to reconnect with ourselves, undisturbed by the demands of life. A simple, yet profound reminder that in solitude, we can rediscover our inner calm and clarity.

Melbourne, Australia - a city where urban sophistication meets natural beauty. Melbourne is well known in Australia for being a city with a vibrant culture, cutting-edge art scene and wildlife. Some of the best wildlife in country can be seen just outside the city and there are two very impressive sanctuaries within an hour or two. Probably the most authentic of these is The Moonlit Sanctuary where visitors can hand feed wallabies and kangaroos, pat koalas and enjoy the colourful birds, dingoes and reptiles.

Another highlight, only 90 minutes from Melbourne, is Phillip Island, hosting the famous Penguins who delight tourists with their famous ‘Penguin Parade’ every day at sunset.

Everyone has heard of ‘The Melbourne Cup’, Australia’s most prestigious horse race, which turns all of the major cities into a spectacle of glamour and adrenaline. Fortunately for Melburnians and unlike residents in other states, Victoria get a public holiday that day, much to the upset of those outside the state! It’s a superb day out with everyone competing for the best fashion and a great experience.

Melbourne must do it right - it was crowned the ‘world’s most liveable city' for seven years in a row until 2018, when Vienna took over.

I am in beautiful Deià, on the northwest coast of Mallorca where one often rubs shoulders with artists and celebrities. I am not here for that though, well, certainly not for the celebrities, but it would be good to chat to some artists if I get a chance. Deià is very pretty and perched in a ravine at the bottom of the Teix mountain. Its history is very rich and I’m just about to go off for a half day private hiking tour, to see the countryside and learn of the settlers. Apparently, Pedro and I will be heading towards Cala Deià, a picturesque cove with crystal waters. The trail goes through beautiful olive groves and stone terraces, and the views of the Tramuntana Mountains and the Mediterranean are supposedly superb. Hope he allows some time for a dip – it’s rather balmy!

This afternoon I’ll spend time wandering the narrow, cobbled streets, visiting the art galleries and lovely shops. I’m then meeting up with a great old school friend and her family, who just happen to here too – we’re all staying at the divine Belmond La Residencia, which has amazing restaurants but we thought we’d go to Restaurant Sebastian, which specialises in Mallorcan flavours with an occasional Asiatic twist and it used to be a 250 year old former stable; it’ll be great to see how it’s been transformed.

Deia is mostly about eating and drinking experiences, walks and hikes. As you know, I generally like a little more adventure and certainly crave learning experiences when I’m away, but I have wanted to come here for a while now and it is certainly charming. On reflection, I think it’s perfect for 3 days of R&R with a visit to Palma or Pollensa thrown in afterwards! And, of course, amazing Barcelona is only a 45 minute flight away; definitely worth a trip, even if just for the Gaudi works of art.

I’m utterly enchanted by the majestic Curtain Fig Tree, an incredible natural wonder that seems to whisper ancient stories with every rustle of its leaves. Standing beneath this colossal giant feels like stepping into a magical forest where time stands still. The curtain of aerial roots cascading down is truly mesmerizing—a nature lover’s dream!

I spent the morning exploring the surrounding forest, marveling at the rich biodiversity and the vibrant flora and fauna. Every corner of this rainforest feels alive with a vibrant energy that’s absolutely captivating.

When thinking about Chennai, images of bustling markets, ancient temples and the rich scent of spices immediately come to mind but there is much more to this vibrant city, often regarded as the gateway to South India. My journey through Chennai was all about history, art and spirituality with so many stories at every turn!

Chennai is home to some of the most stunning architectural marvels, including the iconic Kapaleeshwarar Temple, a striking example of Dravidian architecture. The intricacy of the carvings and the devotion of the worshippers left me in awe. The temple is a spiritual oasis amidst the city's hustle and bustle, offering a serene escape into Chennai's deep-rooted traditions.

I somehow felt a connection to this city. The people are so warm, welcoming and kind. It’s not a place known to many - maybe I shouldn’t be telling you about it!

Merhaba from breathtaking Bodrum! I’m here in this coastal town on the Turkish Riviera, where history matches the laid-back beach life vibes. I’m not usually one to lounge around, but Bodrum’s turquoise waters and sandy beaches are pretty hard to resist, which is why I chose to briefly visit Gumbet beach yesterday, a kilometre of golden sand with lots of water sports on offer; superb for me, especially when the weather is this good.

I then wandered the fascinating and quaint narrow streets before a visit to Bodrum Castle, from which the views are incredible, as well as the Museum of Underwater Archaeology for a fascinating look into ancient shipwrecks and maritime history.

Tonight, I’m heading to a traditional meyhane for some Turkish delicacies; I simply can’t resist grilled octopus wherever I am! Then it’s back to my secret hideaway, the incredibly exclusive Scorpios Bodrum, for a big sleep.

Tomorrow I’m with a guide all day and we’re going out on a traditional gulet cruise along the coastline, stopping at some secluded coves to swim and snorkel. These wooden boats are beautifully authentic; I’ve always wanted to experience them. Then we will visit the ancient city of Halikarnassus, once home to the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Little remains of it now, but it’ll still be good to see as it’s such an important historical landmark. Also there is The Amphitheatre, regarded as one of the best preserved structures of ancient Halikarnassus so I won’t miss that. I really love the ambience here!

‘til next time 😊

Wandering through the cobblestone streets of Old Havana felt like stepping into a living museum. The vibrant, colourful buildings with their grand yet weathered facades tell stories of centuries past, while the lively plazas buzz with the energy of local musicians, artists, and café patrons. I loved my afternoon watching, learning, experiencing; it’s moments like these that capture the true essence of Havana—timeless, vibrant and full of life.

Salaam! Sending you a spark of excitement from spectacular Dubai, full of skyscrapers, souks and beaches. Every moment feels like stepping into a new chapter of a grand adventure. Clearly I had to stay in the world’s tallest (828m) structure, The Burj Khalifa, which is a work of art and a true emblem of the new and prosperous Middle East. It’s stunning and a treat and, once at the top, I felt I was in an aircraft!

I was so excited to visit a souk that I went straight there yesterday when I arrived – and spent almost the whole day there – I bought way too much as usual! The souks are glittery and authentic with an exciting atmosphere. After that, feeling extremely hot from these very high temperatures, I decided to dash into the Chillout Ice Lounge – everything is made from ice, even the seats – heaven!

I just LOVED my evening desert safari, first ‘dune bashing’ on a buggie all the way to the campsite, followed by a truly stunning sunset and a ride on a camel and then a fabulous BBQ with sh**ha 😊 There was even a fire show and Tanura performance – highlight of the day.

Tomorrow I’m off on a sightseeing Dhow Cruise on Dubai Creek. Dhow is a type of traditional wooden boat carved with intricate details, used in the Middle East for centuries – it’s so beautiful. Hoping to learn a lot on that cruise.

What a fun city!
