Our kitties are having a great time with the beautifully made and donated cat scratcher pads and posts.
A HUGE thank you to the staff and participants at Blacktown NSW Community Corrections. They have a community service program that has been working with BARC for the past few months.
The participants have been helping out at our shelter with gardening, landscaping and general maintenance as well as making enrichment items such as scratching posts and snuffle matts. A special mention to Rosa, Sunny, Bernie and Kirsten for their support of this program.
As you can see our cats immediately loved having something novel to smell and interact with.
These items are easy to make and we appreciate any enrichment items we can give to our animals.
Thank you 💖😻😻

BRAE MADE SOME FRIENDS TODAY! 🤩
Brae had an awesome time today meeting two of our available pups Isabelle and Nelly. 😊 Brae is our second longest term dog and is often overlooked unfortunately, despite being such an amazing dog! Brae is well mannered and an absolute cuddle bug who firmly believes he is a lap dog. We are also yet to find a dog Brae has not gotten along with, from puppies to giants like Ed, Brae loves to play and is also very respectful when it comes to the boundaries of other dogs. He would make an excellent companion for any lucky family - why not give him a chance?

🐾🧠 Dog Enrichment at BARC 🧠🐾
At BARC, we know how important it is to keep our furry friends happy and healthy. Enrichment plays a vital role in their well-being, and using their noses is one of the best ways to engage them! 🐶👃
Dogs experience the world through their sense of smell, and providing them with opportunities to use their noses helps reduce stress, alleviate boredom, and enhance their mental and physical health. 🌟
Here are some ways we enrich our dogs' lives:
🔹 Scent Games: Hiding treats or toys for them to find.
🔹 Interactive Toys:Puzzle feeders that make them work for their food.
🔹 Nature Walks: Letting them explore and sniff to their heart's content.
🔹 Training Sessions: Teaching new commands and tricks using positive reinforcement.
Remember, a stimulated dog is a happy dog! Enrichment isn't just a luxury – it's essential for their overall health and happiness. 💖

Please note that Bruce and Toffee are not a bonded pair, they are both just social dogs who love to have a play 😊

- Touch
- Look
- Sit
Teaching our dogs basic commands will ensure that they have more positive and safe interactions with other people and pets in the community. Watch as staff member Tara runs "Marge" through some basic training for the first time.
Using “touch” for recall instead of using “come" is especially useful when at a park or in public, because it requires the dog to come right to your body, making it easy grab them if it's necessary.

UPDATE: all 6 have found foster homes
🐾 Urgent Call to Action: Another Litter of 6 Puppies in Desperate Need of Foster 🐾
We're heartbroken and frustrated all over again. Today, yet another litter of 6 innocent puppies has been brought to BARC, adding to the relentless stream of animals in need of help. 😡💔
It's infuriating to see this pattern repeat itself, knowing that these defenseless creatures are caught in a cycle of neglect and abandonment. We refuse to accept this as the norm.
We're on the hunt for foster carers who can step up and provide the care and comfort these puppies so desperately require. We're looking for individuals or families willing to take them in, preferably in pairs or small groups of 3, to ensure they have the support they need to flourish.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] if you're interested in fostering. These puppies deserve better, and it's up to us to make sure they get it. 🏡💥
Let's channel our anger into action and break this vicious cycle once and for all. Together, we can make a difference. 🐾

🐾WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE A CHANCE ON ON AN FIV CAT LIKE BAGHEERA🐾
Sweet man Bagheera is a super smooch who loves going on adventures around BARC. However cats like this handsome boy are often overlooked and spend way too long in pounds because of their FIV status.
Let us change your mind about adopting cats with FIV:
- A common disease among cats in Australia, with around 10-20% of cats estimated to be affected and is not zoonotic
- They can live a normal life span and are just as loving as any other cat – best of all, by adopting a cat with FIV you are saving a cat who really needs it!
- Only other cats can contract FIV and this is through an infected cat biting another cat, or less often from a mother cat to her kittens. We recommend that cats with FIV be indoor cats and rehomed to a household without other cats, or with social cats who also already have the virus to prevent further spread.
- FIV itself does not require any treatment, but it is important to protect the cat from other diseases. Yearly check ups at the vet with regular vaccinations and parasite prevention is essential.
Cats such as sweet and affectionate Bagheera (imp. 2465) can be a great addition to the family and you will know that you have truly rescued an animal in need. So why not give him a chance!
Adoption fee: $50
All our animals come microchipped, NSW lifetime registered, desexed, vaccination and vet checked.
