Sicily (Italian: Sicilia) is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea; along with surrounding minor islands, it constitutes an autonomous region of Italy. Sicily has a roughly triangular shape, which earned it the name Trinacria (The three bent legs allegedly represent the three points of the triangular shape of the island of Sicily). To the east, it is separated from the Italian region of Cala

bria by the Strait of Messina,
Sicily is located in the central Mediterranean. It extends from the tip of the Apennine peninsula, from which it is separated only by the narrow Strait of Messina, towards the North African coast. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which, at 3,350 m (10,990 ft), is the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild and wet winters and hot, dry summers. Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine and architecture. It also holds importance for archaeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples and Selinunte. Administratively, Sicily is divided into nine provinces, each with a capital city of the same name as the province, which are Messina, Catania, Ragusa, Siracusa, Agrigento, Enna, Caltanissetta, Trapani and Palermo. Small surrounding islands are also part of various Sicilian provinces: the Aeolian Islands (Messina), isle of Ustica (Palermo), Aegadian Islands (Trapani), isle of Pantelleria (Trapani) and Pelagian Islands (Agrigento). Sicily's sunny, dry climate, scenery, cuisine, history, and architecture attract many tourists from mainland Italy and abroad. The tourist season peaks in the summer months, although people visit the island all year round. Mount Etna, the beaches, the archaeological sites, and major cities such as Palermo, Catania, Syracuse and Ragusa are the favourite tourist destinations, but the old town of Taormina and the neighbouring seaside resort of Giardini Naxos draw visitors from all over the world, as do the Aeolian Islands, Erice, Cefalù, Agrigento, the Pelagie Islands and Capo d'Orlando. The latter features some of the best-preserved temples of the ancient Greek period. Many Mediterranean cruise ships stop in Sicily and many wine tourists also visit the island. Some scenes of famous Hollywood and Cinecittà films were shot in Sicily. This increased the attraction of Sicily as a tourist destination.

“RIVA DEL GARDA is also called the Jewel of Lake Garda. Lemon trees, palm trees as well as bay trees are very characteristic for this village at the lake shore. Riva del Garda represents the junction between north and south of Lake Garda. This is also where the Gruppo di Brenta, a mountain massif, begins. This mountain chain offers challenging fixed rope routes. - From Trentino.com⁣

The food of Trentino-Alto Adige in the South Tyrol region of Italy is not what you might think of as typically Italian food, and the same could be said for just about everything in the region, with its local culture more Germanic than Italian. In fact, the locals here refer to themselves as German-speaking Italians.

As for the food in this part of northern Italy, the influence of surrounding food cultures — most notably Germany, Austria, and Hungary — is interesting and
delicious. Pasta dishes, polenta, and pizza coexist alongside sauerkraut, hearty stews, schnitzels and game meats, and popular comfort food dishes made with apples, ham, and cheese. And lots and lots of cheese!

Traditional Tyrolean food is one of Italy’s most distinct regional cuisines, and a must-try for Italy foodies.

From the beautiful islands of Sicily & Sardinia to far north Italy…welcome to TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE

“The VAL DI FUNES is a scenic valley on the edge of the dolomites in north-east Italy, to the east of Brixen and north of Lake Garda. As reward for its extraordinary natural beauty, the dolomites are now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.⁣

Because of its relative isolation the area is quite quiet and there are limited facilities for visitors, although the Heritage Site listing and popularity of the views on social media has increased visitor numbers here in recent years.” - from Italy This Way -⁣

Porto Cervo is a curious, artificial vision of Mediterranean beauty. The utopian village combines Greek, North African, Spanish and Italian architectural elements, and the overall effect is pseudo-Moorish with a touch of the Flintstones. Apart from the magnificent coastal scenery that surrounds it, there’s nothing remotely Sardinian about Porto Cervo. Instead, it resembles exactly what it is: a purpose-built leisure centre for the super-rich – a kind of Disneyland for Gucci-clad grown-ups.

“No other port or sea harbor in the world is quite like Italy’s PORTO FLAVIA. Built in 1924, the ingenious cliff-face port allowed workers to lower ore directly down from the cliff into cargo ships waiting below.⁣

In 1922, the Masua mining operations in Sardinia, which had been active ever since the early 1600s, had reached a peak of production. Zinc and lead were in high demand, and modernized mining methods meant that more ore was being extracted than ever before.”⁣

Sicily is not only famous for history & food, Sicily also produces some of the best wines in Italy.
The tiny island of Pantelleria (western Sicily) is know for their Moscato and the gorgeous island of Lipari (Aeolian Islands) is known for the Malvasia but today we want to take you to a special place called Gambino Winery.

Perched on the side of Mt Etna, the active volcano overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the unique climate and soil conditions of this picturesque location is the perfect setting to produce the world’s most exquisite wines.

“Sicily’s Egadi Islands Are an Oasis of Wild Italian Living!!!

Just off the western point of Sicily, the Italian island fantasy embodied by the likes of Capri and Panarea becomes raw and wild amid spawning bluefins and North African winds. The Egadi archipelago, composed of three main islands named Favignana (the largest), Levanzo, and Marettimo, is a feral landscape of phantasmagoric rock set within Europe's biggest marine reserve. Bohemian Sicilians come here to hide out and reset: The Egadis are just 93 miles from Tunisia's Cape Bon, and the closeness to somewhere so culturally distant from Europe makes them feel even farther from the Italian mainland.”

“The capital of multicultural Sicily, Palermo regularly ranks as one of the world’s top destinations for street food.

Snacking on the street is a proud, centuries-old tradition in Palermo, born of both practicality and poverty. Even as street food writ large has become a worldwide fad, with celebrity chefs preparing amped-up versions of humble home-grown classics, street food culture here remains true to its unpretentious roots.

Street food venues are scattered all over the city, with many popular spots concentrated near the bustling Vucciria, Ballarò and Capo markets. Below is a list of Palermo’s most traditional snacks – don’t leave town without trying a few!”
