Drone technology is advancing at a great rate and the use of drones in remote environmental monitoring is on the rise. One of the latest automated drones has just landed on the scene. 'Lily' as it is named is an automated drone that can track a person or object fitted with a transponder unit.
The auto Drone is water resistant, has a 20 minute flight time and is launched by throwing it into the air. Application might include video records of flood gauging. While mainly developed for the highly lucrative Point of View (POV) sport market, Lily has potential as an extremely useful tool in monitoring our environment.

I have worked for Seqwater in the environmental monitoring field for the past 8 years and recently started Enviro Measure when I finished with Seqwater in December. During my time at Seqwater I worked in a number of areas including water quality, environmental remote monitoring and research and policy. In 2012 I acted as a contractor for YSI Australia on a number of projects requiring design and assembly of monitoring stations, assembly and refurbishment of water quality trailers and buoys and assistance in design of compact solutions for remote, telemetered, field site monitoring.

Below is a list of the key capabilities that I am able to offer to assist in your business needs,

*Programming of data loggers and telemetry equipment.
*Configuration and deployment of environmental monitoring equipment and systems.
*Integration of environmental monitoring equipment with telemetered data logging stations.
*Assembly and wiring of data logger monitoring stations.
*Weather station programming, integration and installation.
*Provision of data collection for bathymetric surveys.
*GIS bathymetry mapping of tailings dams settling ponds and any small waterway in formats compatible with ArcGIS and MapInfo software systems.
*Extra staff for short term requirements in the environmental field.
*Provision of commercial boating qualification (Coxswains Licence) for all smooth waters, allowing on water work to be undertaken in a safe and legal manner as dictated by relevant legislation.
*Maintenance and servicing of remote monitoring stations both land based and water based.
*Significant experience in assembly and maintenance of YSI vertical profiling systems, gauging stations with water quality sampling systems and weather stations.
*Designing and installing 12V and 24V solar power solutions for remote stations without access to mains power.
*Selection of suitable monitoring sites based on customer specifications for data required. This includes surveying cross sections of rivers for installation and setup of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler units collecting storm water and river flow data.
*Provision of telemetry solutions for local station communications and remote station communications. Solutions include cellular, radio and hard wire connections as determined suitable for each site.
*Provision of a 4WD vehicle to access difficult sites.
*Provision of relevant watercraft to access sites with equipment on the water or across waterways.
