Your cardboard takeaway cup, while initially thought to be eco-friendly, generates more waste than advertised. The interior of most cardboard cups is layered with plastic, which most recycling plants can’t separate from the cardboard making it un-recyclable.
Aside from this, cardboard cups can’t be made from entirely recycled materials to comply with health and safety regulations. The use of reusable cups will then help cut down on the country’s annual waste whilst also easing the cutting of trees for cardboard cup manufacturing ♻️
🌿✨ Before European settlement, around 13,000 hectares (about 10%) of the Gold Coast's land area was lush rainforest. From the 1850s, majestic rainforest trees like red cedar, white beech, and hoop pine were harvested, and some areas were cleared for farming.
Fortunately, most of our precious rainforests thrive in hard-to-access hinterland areas, protecting their natural beauty. Today, an estimated 71% of these rainforests remain intact since European settlement.

Meet the Albert’s Lyrebird - nature’s ultimate mimic maestro! 🌟🎵 During courtship displays, male lyrebirds create an orchestra of sounds, seamlessly blending calls from various birds. They are very shy and rarely seen, so this was a very special moment on tour. #SouthernCrossTours #VisitScenicRim
Feed the mind - Orographic Uplift (OU) occurs when an air mass is forced from a low elevation to a higher elevation as it moves over rising terrain, like a mountain. 🏞️ 💨 This phenomenon underpins the existence of Antarctic Beech trees in the region because it maintains a climate (temperature, rainfall and humidity) as close as the plants can get to the conditions in ancient Gondwana. It also eliminates any chance of fires burning in these forests because it keeps them constantly wet/moist (another prerequisite for their survival). Fog produced by OU is intercepted by canopy foliage, bark, leaf litter etc and can contribute up to 40% additional rainfall per year! Very Cool.
