Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains,which span Asia and Europe.The capital of Azerbaijan is Baku.Azerbaijan's nickname is "The Land of Fire"
1.Flame Towers are a group of three flame-shaped skyscrapers in Baku which are intended to symbolize the elements of fire.The height of the tallest tower is 182 m.
2.Heydar Aliyev Center- building complex in Baku designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid and noted for its distinctive architecture and flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles. Not a single straight line was used in the Center’s design.
The overall shape of the building resembles a wave-like ascension from the ground towards the sky followed by gradual descent down to the earth. This is not only a tribute to post-modern architecture,but also a portrayal of an eternal cycle.The lines on the building-bridge the past with the present.
3.Icharishahar -Old Town or Inner City is the historical core of Baku and the most ancient part of Baku,which is surrounded by walls.
4.Gobustan Rock Art represents flora and fauna, lifestyles, and culture of pre-historic and medieval periods of time.The carvings on the rocks illustrates primitive men,ritual dances,animals,bull fights,camel caravans and pictures of the sun and stars.The monuments of this reserve all date from different centuries, covering a substantial amount of time:from the Mesolithic era up to the Middle ages.
5.Mud volcanoes - Azerbaijan has the most mud volcanoes of any country, spread broadly across the country.350 of the 700 volcanoes are in Azerbaijan.
6.Fire temple - Historical roots of the temple go to the ancient centuries when Zoroastrianism was a ruling religion.
7.Yanar Dagh is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside for thousands of years.
8.The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is a historical mosque in Azerbaijan.The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century.
9.Little Venice is an area within Baku Boulevard that is made up of man-made waterways.It was built in 1960 but was later expanded in 2012.
