Yugoslavia, formed in 1918 as a union of South Slavic peoples, underwent significant historical phases. After WWII, Josip Broz Tito led the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, implementing Titoism. This unique form of socialism emphasized non-alignment during the Cold War.

However, ethnic tensions persisted, erupting into violent conflicts in the 1990s. Yugoslavia dissolved amid wars, leading to the independence of several republics: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and later, Montenegro and Serbia.

Today, the former Yugoslav states are independent nations, each with its own government, culture, and identity.
