Here in Barbados we are anxiously awaiting our girl Rihanna to represent (as we know only she can) during the Half-Time Show this evening. There are viewing parties galore and we'll all be locked to the screen, possibly not blinking for the 15 min presentation to see her 'bring it'.

As you know our national sport is cricket, then football (the one you actually play with your feet), hockey, rugby cycling...we don't actually play much American football here but today we are all proudly a part of the NFL - National Fenty League!

FAQ - Do I need to travel with cash and what is the exchange rate in Barbados?

Great question! So short answer: Absolutely, stick with smaller denomination bills in US currency if possible as this currency is most widely accepted locally (preferably $20's and below, as your change will always be given back in Barbados dollars). They are perfect for taking a cab, tipping or small convenience purchases on the street.

Long answer: Most major credit cards (esp. Visa & Mastercard) are widely accepted for payment, however, if you need cash while here you can certainly do so conveniently via bank ATMs or formally in bank (Mon - Friday before 3 pm).

Foreign Exchange rates are regulated by the Central Bank of Barbados and will be the same from bank to bank. Today Mar 3rd, 2022 the exchange rates are as follows:- EUR $2.20478, GBP $2.62464, CAD $1.54932 & US $1.98.

Oh.... and yes for our European travellers, the Revolut card can be used here.

Mount Gay Rum offers rum tours at two (2) venues, the convenient and centrally located Visitor Centre in Bridgetown AND the longstanding 300+ years Great House & Distillery to the north of the island in St Lucy.

Without a reservation, you can pop by the Visitor Centre [Bridgetown] to awaken your rum appreciation with a Signature Tasting [1 Hr - Tasting 4 Signature Rums] US $20; these tours run like clockwork, on the half-hour 10:30 AM until 2:30 PM on weekdays.

However, true ‘rum aficionados’ wishing a more immersive, bespoke experience and viewing of the historic estate and working equipment should definitely reserve a St Lucy tour. Yes, it is a bit of a drive through the countryside, but totally worth it and you will be responsibly chauffeured to and from your accommodation by our Mount Gay shuttle.

Travelling to Barbados? Here are the latest COVID-19 Protocols as sanctioned by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MHW) in Barbados.

ALL travellers into Barbados, inclusive of those deemed fully vaccinated, are asked to review, and indicate their acceptance of the following:

ALL travellers must travel with a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result.

Travellers are permitted to travel to Barbados with a valid negative Rapid COVID-19 PCR test result done within 1 day prior to arrival in Barbados OR a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test result done within 3 days prior to arrival.

Accepted tests include tests which were taken at an accredited or recognized laboratory by a healthcare provider via a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal sample (or both). LAMP tests, self-administered tests or home kits and tests using saliva samples will NOT be accepted.

With specific reference to the type of PCR test required and accepted for entry into Barbados:

Specific Requirements:
- The specimen taken must be a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab (or both) taken by a healthcare provider
- The sample must be taken within 3 days prior to arrival for RT PCR test or 1 day prior to arrival for Rapid PCR test.
- The laboratory performing the test must be an accredited, certified or recognized facility

Please note that the following will NOT be accepted:
- Nasal swab samples
- Saliva samples
- Self-administered tests (even if the sample was taken - under the supervision of a healthcare provider)
- Home kits
- Rapid Antigen tests
