বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার ইতিহাসে ২৫শে মার্চ ছিল একটি নির্মম গণহত্যার দিন। ১৯৭১ সালের ২৫শে মার্চ রাতে নিরস্ত্র বাঙালির উপর পাকিস্তানি বাহিনীর আক্রমণের ফলশ্রুতিতে শুরু হয়েছিল নয় মাস ব্যাপী স্বাধীনতার লড়াই।

আজ ঐতিহাসিক ৭ই মার্চ । বাঙ্গালি জাতির স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাসে এক অনন্য দিন। ১৯৭১ সালের এই দিনে রেসকোর্স ময়দানে (বর্তমানে সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান) সমবেত জনসমুদ্রে জাতির উদ্দেশে ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণ দেন বঙ্গবন্ধু। তাঁর এই ভাষণ জাতিকে অনুপ্রাণিত করে স্বাধীনতার জন্য সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়তে। ২০১৭ সালে ইউনেস্কো এই ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণকে বিশ্বের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রামাণ্য ঐতিহ্য হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে।
