🌿✨ Exploring the Mysteries of Palm Boats in Bangladesh with Dr. Beat Arnold ✨🚣‍♂️

Embark on a journey of discovery as we delve into the fascinating world of Donga – the traditional palm boats of Bangladesh. Dr. Beat Arnold, a Swiss archaeologist, joined us on an extraordinary research trip in January 2024, unraveling the secrets of these ancient vessels.

🔍 Witnessing the Donga-making process across different regions of Bangladesh was truly eye-opening. Despite crafting the same boat, each community showcased unique techniques and tools, adding layers of diversity to this timeless craft.

🌊 But the real revelation came when we stumbled upon a long-lost treasure – a special raft from the Sundarbans, made from the Nypa Palm. This relic, vanished for 50-70 years, once aided fishermen in navigating the forest's labyrinthine waters. With the help of local elders, like the wise 94-year-old fisherman we befriended, we pieced together the raft's intricate design, resurrecting a piece of forgotten history.

📚 Driven by curiosity and determination, Dr. Beat's quest to uncover the truth behind this elusive raft led us on a relentless search through books, libraries, and conversations. And finally, our collective efforts bore fruit, illuminating a chapter of Bangladesh's maritime heritage.

📖 Stay tuned for the forthcoming book by Dr. Beat Arnold, where our remarkable journey and discoveries will be unveiled. Together, we'll continue to celebrate and preserve the rich tapestry of Bangladesh's cultural legacy.
