Ah Floripa… Yet another gem I would wholeheartedly recommend to everyone visiting Brazil! Truly, I don’t think there’s a single ‘ugly’ place in this country! After exploring its stunning beaches and green jungles, it’s time for me to fly to another destination. Outside of Brazil this time! Looking forward to what the next month or so will bring in my path 🤩!

Ah Brazil 🇧🇷 … I’ve been here for so long and still I am amazed by every new place that I get to see! Just look at this gorgeous beach in Florianopolis, a city in the south of Brazil. Locals told me I should definitely hike towards 'Praia da Lagoinha do Leste’ - and indeed… it did not disappoint! This viewpoint is fantastic, but the beach itself is even better due to its remoteness and sheer beauty. Paradise! 🏝️

Snorkeling with Pablo Escobar’s plane – where history meets the ocean floor. Who knew my beach day would have such a notorious co-star? 🌊✨
It was used for transporting illicit substances during the height of the Medellín Cartel’s operations in the 1980s. The plane met its fate in 1986 when it was seized by authorities and later deliberately sunk as part of an anti-drug initiative. ✈️💦

I have not been very active lately, on Instagram. But as you perhaps did see on my stories, that is because I’m 100% enjoying my ‘break’ in Colombia. I’ve been here for about 4 weeks now, and really needed to unwind after 1,5 years of almost non stop travelling. I definitely do not want to sound like a spoiled brat (I know I am! Haha), but all the impressions and constant ‘high’ from travelling, can get exhausting.

Embracing nature’s beauty at Cap Noir, a very easily accessible gem within the Cilaos cirque. 🏞️ This breathtaking viewpoint offers a panoramic spectacle of majestic mountains, lush forests, and deep ravines defining Réunion’s landscape. The enchanting hike to Cap Noir unveils winding trails and rich vegetation, but a mere 15-minute walk to reach the main viewpoint is in fact enough to get to this gorgeous panorama! Also: beware that in 2023 the rest of the hike is in fact ‘closed’ because of earthquakes and fallen rocks! However… you can really very easily walk around these nuisances 😉🌿

Dazzled by Réunion’s Cascade du Voile de la Mariée – a natural wonder near Salazie (another sight worth exploring!) 🏞️ This giant waterfall, visible from the road, REALLY exceeded my expectations. A short and not too strenuous hike from ‘Sentier de la cascade du Voile de la mariée’ brings you under this mesmerizing spectacle. Follow the signs, cross the cable bridge (‘La Passelle’), and ascend through a charming path. The final reveal is breathtaking – a hidden gem worth discovering! 🌊

Hiking the Piton de la Fournaise: a thrilling adventure into the heart of Réunion’s eastern marvel. 🌋 With over 150 eruptions since 1640, this 2632-meter high shield volcano offers a phenomenal landscape of vast lava fields. The iconic hike, ‘Le Piton de la Fournaise depuis le Pas de Bellecombe’, begins at Parking du Pas de Bellecombe. Not for the faint-hearted, it took me over six hours (with many photo stops) to conquer this challenging trail. Starting with a descent of 600 steps, crossing a flat lava field, and ascending the steep slopes, every step is rewarded with breathtaking views. 👟 Prepare for sharp rocks and slippery surfaces – sturdy hiking shoes are a must! The panoramic vistas from the flank of Piton de la Fournaise are pure magic, making every effort worthwhile. 🌄 This renowned trek is just one of many in this vast natural reserve, catering to all levels of fitness. The journey itself, passing through otherworldly landscapes and the mythical Plaine des Sables, is a magical experience. Even if you don’t embark on this intensive hike, the panoramic viewpoint offers a stunning outlook over Piton de la Fournaise and its FANTASTIC, untouched surroundings.

Réunion’s crown jewel? The Grand Galet waterfall! 🌈 Multiple cascades of sheer beauty surrounded by a tapestry of greens. Eroded rocks in a symphony of browns, blacks, and reds, leading to a colossal basin of ice-cold water. 😍 I was genuinely moved by the grandeur and power of this natural spectacle – a waterfall like no other. Accessible from the street, no strenuous hike needed, but beware of the crowds!

The (often) misty atmosphere of Réunion adds to the magic, so start your day early. Ready for a refreshing dip? Descend from the viewing platform or climb down the steep path for a more private experience. Just be prepared for a bit of rock climbing! 🧗‍♂️
