Los Angeles is a city of villages each with its own unique story. Its this collection of stories that make Los Angeles dynamic and inspirational. Visitors come from around the world and often times see the city in a blur and never connect with the Los Angeles that Angelenos know and love. To investigate Los Angeles’ nooks and crannies up close and in slow motion is a much different experience than seeing large swaths at 40mph. We tell people that the city is so vast and so deep that the best way to understand it and appreciate it, is to pick a few areas that interest you and spend your time only there. Experience the “secret” and hidden gems of the neighborhood - the food, the music, the art, the people. Slow down your pace and absorb it. Walk it. Take a seat and become a vo**ur. Give yourself time to be “in it.”
This is Downtown LA’s Arts District. in the 1800’s it was one of the largest wine producing regions in the world on the banks of the Los Angeles River. During Prohibition the neighborhood became the Produce District providing a cornucopia of fresh produce year round to the entire nation. In the 1980’s acres of aging red brick warehouses evolved again into studios and residences to starving artists and musicians. Today the Arts District is Los Angeles most vibrant and energetic neighborhood of shops, restaurants, breweries, art galleries and unique residences that most visitors have never heard of. Warner Music moved its world headquarters here and Spotify has set up its Los Angeles offices here as well.
The neighborhood is famed for thousands of vibrant outdoor murals created by some of the world’s biggest names in street art. This student group just completed a tour of the street art throughout the district and will now dive into some Brooklyn style pizza at Luppetti Pizzeria . This mural in the background was done by Blacklight King.
