A Balkan Media Project

The Media Project HEADlines offers 15 students from the 5 countries Albania, Bulgaria, FYROM, Kosovo and Romania the opportunity to work together on the topics media manipulation and freedom of press in the Balkan region. The project agenda contains visits in local radio and TV station and a press office, presentations and discussions led by practitioners and intensive working sessions on your own article, radio podcast or TV report in close cooperation with media experts. During the 5 days-seminary you will visit a press office, a radio and a TV station where practitioners will demonstrate you the way of how an information becomes a published report. Furthermore lecturers will increase your consciousness towards manipulation strategies of media and give you an overview about the status of the freedom of press in the Balkan region. In the course of the seminary you may choose one of the forms of media you want to focus on. The whole group will be split into a newspaper, radio and TV group. Each group will be professionally advised and supported by an expert who will be your contact person during the whole project. His expertise and the personal introduction to the use of layout and software programs guarantees you a close look into the special media and its specific technical possibilities. The creative outcome is supposed to be a newspaper article, a radiocast or a news report created by the individual media group. Consequently the working time frame for each group needs to be fulfilled with effective team management, the allocation of different tasks and the use of learned techniques in order to present your personal media result on the last day during a press conference. The working language is English. The price for each participant amounts 20 Euro in which everything is included (free journey, accommodation and lodging, VISA (if necessary) and mentoring during the whole project). The applicant should be a student from Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia studying humanities, journalism, social, media or cultural sciences and all studies with an international focus. Participants should be fluent in English in writing and speaking as well as being interested in the topic of Media. Please send your application (a CV and a motivation letter) and a preference in which media group you would like to participate, either the newspaper, the radio or the TV group latest until 28th February 2011 to the following Email address: [email protected]
