✨Oh, how happy and excited we feel to share with you today!✨
🇧🇬 1st of March is Bulgaria’s most beloved ancient holiday of “Baba Marta” - the symbol of the upcoming spring, our desire to a fruitful year and the hope for eternal happiness and life! 🌺🌸🌼
We put red and white threads on our hands called “martenitsa” and we wish each other health and joy but moreover we fulfil a millennial tradition!
But what makes this photo even more special? 🌞
Our team became a part of something truly touching and beautiful - we had a private tour with an amazing couple who just got engaged and we couldn’t be happier for the love they had for each other! 💍💓💓
Without even knowing of their story we have picked up a humble gift for them - a special martenitsa with the most Bulgarian symbol - the “kanatitsa” - which symbolises the “unity of families“, meaning that the families of the two will become one!
What a day! ❤️

This amazing tomato pepper relish
is so simple yet so delish 😋
For us Bulgarians it has really become a part of our life and each autumn we prepare lots of it for the winter!
In case you visit Bulgaria in the fall you are sure to smell peppers being baked all around! 🍅🌶🧄🧅🥕
The best thing about it is that it is universal - you can eat it alone, as an appetiser, you can put it on a toast, crackers, combine it with meatballs or potatoes and many more! 😊
And in case you spread it on a piece of bread, make sure to sprinkle some cheese on it, and there you have it - our favourite childhood snack.

“Meze or mezze is a selection of small dishes served as appetizers in parts of the Middle East, the Balkans, Greece, and North Africa. In some Middle Eastern and African regions where it is present, especially predominantly Muslim regions where alcohol is less common, meze is often served as a part of multi-course meals, while in Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans, they function more as snacks while drinking or talking.”

👹 The Surova or Surva 👹 are Masquerade games in Bulgaria inscribed in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
We simply call them “Kukeri” - men, women and children dancing dressed in costumes from textile or animal fur with big bells on their belts.
These loud and “scary” outfits have the purpose to protect the village from evil powers. The feast most commonly happens on 13-14th January – the New Year according to the old calendar.
This is a true living tradition and it gets passed on from generation to generation especially in the villages of South-West Bulgaria.
