And Allah had already taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We delegated from among them twelve leaders. And Allah said, "I am with you. If you establish prayer and give zakah and believe in My messengers and support them and loan Allah a goodly loan, I will surely remove from you your misdeeds and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way."

Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him].

* There are 2 x 12 = 24 hours in a day. 12 for day and 12 for night.
* There are 12 months in a year.
* Buddha had 12 students. (Buddha could be an ancient prophet.)
* There are 12 kind of years in Chinese calender.
* Some mythological stories involve with the number 12. (Considering that mythology is corruption of ancient ummats makes sense).
It looks like that the number 12 has something to do with periodic movement and circulations.
What makes this number so special in Quran and in nature?

About ancient civilizations and the number 6
In the ancient times, mankind was seeing the astrology as a science. They were studying it very deeply and the order in the sky was tried to replicate in the earth. Probably because of this, ancient civilizations used 6 as a base in their mathematics (today we use 10 because it is easy to calculate). The division of time was based on number 6 in many societies like Chinese, Central Asian societies like Turks and Mongols, Egypt etc. All used a calendar based on 6. They also divided the day into multiple of 6, designed clocks according to that. They divided the year into multiple of 6 etc.
About the 12 number of Children of Israel
I think the Children of Israel may divided into 12 tribes because Prophet Josef(puh) has 11 brothers. They probably were influenced by this ancient tradition, thus tried to replicate it somehow. Probably the main reason for why and how they corrupted their belief was this tradition. Although I am not sure.
About the 12 springs and 12 leaders, it is about their division which was already there. I heard that these 12 tribes of Children of Israel were constantly fighting and struggling each other back in that time, so Allah sent them not 1, but 12 springs. There maybe another reason for that, I don't know. Also if there were 12 tribes, it is natural that there were 12 leaders.
About 12 months in the eyes of Allah
In the Turkish tafseer of The Presidency of Religious Affairs of Turkey, it is explained as follows (I am summarizing and translating):
Back in the Era of Ignorance, the Arabs were considering 4 months as haram, as a belief coming from Prophet Abraham(puh). In these months, they were trying to avoid fights, wars etc. They were zilkade, zilhicce, muharrem and receb. However, some tribes were counting 8 months as haram, while some tribes were not believing any haram months. Because of this, the other tribes had to be careful about these tribes, because they could start a war in these months. The tribes back then were always fighting each other, also zilkade, zilhicce and muharrem are consequtive months, so it was hard to follow this belief.
Because a moon year is 11 days shorter than a sun year, the time of pilgrimage was changing all the time (as today). They also didn't want pilgrimage which is in zilhicce (the last month) to be disturbed because of improper weather conditions for trade. They want that the pilgrimage should be in a time appropriate for trade. In order to do that, they added 1 week for each 6 months, thus gained 1 month in every 2 years and added this month to the end of the year. This means that, in every 2 years, a year was 13 months and the consecutive 3 haram months were no longer consecutive.
They also counted some haram months like receb and muharrem as not haram when they needed to fight and counted the months safer and şaban as haram for that year.
As a conclusion, with the verse Surat At-Tawbah 9/36, all of these wrong actions and attitudes were corrected as in the time of Abraham(puh).
About you list
For 12 havaris of Jesus(puh), I don't know if there were exactly 12 of them. I searched in the Quran and couldn't find any number of hawaris. This number may be determined in later times with the corruption based of old pagan belief.
For the division of years, months, days etc, I tried to explain this.
I have not enough information about Buddha.
As we learn from the verse Surat At-Tawbah 9/36, there is an order in the universe based on 6 or 12. So, my idea is that this order was discovered by previous civilizations and the number entered the ancient beliefs and myths. And later on, it is entered religions such as Christianity, Judaism etc as a corruption and its real meaning is forgotten.

The number 12 gets repeated because the children of Israel had 12 tribes and because Qur'an deals in detail about the children of Israel. (Your first and third reference are from the events of children of Israel)
Your second reference (from the life of Joseph, on whom be peace) - the number can also be counted as 13 (11 stars, a sun and a moon) or as fourteen (11 brothers + Joseph + Parents)

THE MOST HONORABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMAD THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH HERE IN THE WEST ASK THE QUESTION WHO IS THAT MYSTERY GOD? IS GOD A MYSTERY? MYSTERY MEANS THAT WHICH IS UNKOWN, HAVE THE PROPHETS BEEN REPRESENTING A GOD UKNOWN? CAN ONE TEACH THAT WHICH HE OR SHE DOES NOT KNOW, IF ONE TEACHES THAT WHICH HE DOES NOT KNOW HE COULD BE CONSIDER LYING TO THE PEOPLE.

WE HAVE TO MANY WHO TEACH AS THOUGH THEY KNOW, BUT THEY KNOW NOT . BUT THE WORLD'S CONDITION AND HUMANITY AND OUR WOMAN AND CHILDRENS CONDITIONS SHOWS THAT WHAT WE KNOW LITTLE MUCH IN THE WAY OF ESTABLISHING TRUE FREEDOM, JUSTICE, EQUALITY, LOVE, HARMONY, DIVINE CHARACTER, SUBLIME ETHICS AND PEACE FOR ONE ANOTHER, OURSELVES, FAMILY, FRIENDS, LOVE ONES, AND FELLOW MAN AND NEIGHBOR! THIS MUST END, MY BEAUTIFUL MUSLIM BROTHERS FROM THE EAST DON'T WANT TO ACCEPT THIS KNOWLEDGE AS REVELATION, BUT IT IS VERY NECESSARY FOR US TO LEARN THAT GOD DWELS IN MAN AND THAT THATS HIS DIVINE POTIENTIAL AND THAT MAN AND WOMAN WERE MADE TO BE HOLY AND THE GLORY OF GOD AS THE BIBLE SAYS.

WHEN WE SEE OUR DIVINITY OR UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS OUR POTENTIAL OR DESTINY TO BE MANIFESTATIONS OF GOD, THEOPHANIES OF GOD IN PERSON WE WILL CHECK OUR BEHAVIOR BECAUSE WHAT FOOL WOULD INTENTIONALLY CONSCIOUSLY HARM GOD IN THEIR BROTHER OR KNOWINGLY KILL THE SACRED IN THEIR SISTER, YET PRAY AND CLAIM TO BE RIGHTEOUS OR OF GOD. THIS IS WHERE THE RELIGIOUS WORLDS HAVE FAILED AND WHERE WE ARE FAILING AS HUMAN BEINGS. SO INSTEAD OF REVERENCING AND LOVING EACH OTHER AND OUR DIVERSITY AS MAN, WOMAN, MUSLIM(SHIITE, SUFI, SUNNI, SIKH), CHRISTIAN, HEBREW, JEW, BUDDHIST, HINDU, BLACK, BROWN RED, YELLOW, OR WHITE MEN AND WOMAN WE HURT AND PREY ON ONE ANOTHER BECAUSE WE DON'T REALIZE THAT GOD HAS THE POTIENTIAL TO DWELL IN US ALL!

What is the difference between rasul and nabi?

A loose definition in English is that a Nabi (pl. Anbiya) is a Prophet, and a Rasul (pl. Rusul) is a Messenger. Linguistically, a Nabi is someone who has been given revelation or news (of an important nature, immediately concerning themselves or their communities). A Rasul, linguistically, is someone given a message to deliver

What is the difference between Rasool and Nabi ?
After knowing the terminological meanings of Rasul and Nabi, it is also important to understand the difference of these two great positions.
The Quran has used both the words, Nabi and Rasul, which shows that there were two kinds of messengers.
Some of the messengers were Nabi only.
Some messengers were both Nabi and Rasool.
The difference between Rasul and Nabi is that,
A Rasul was a messenger of Allah who was given a new Shariat (codes of law) from Him. And a Nabi was also the messenger of Allah, but he was not given any new Shariat and followed the shariat of earlier Rasul. Sheikh Mufid, a great scholar of Islam writes in his book, Awa’il al-Maqalat, “every messenger is a prophet [Nabi], but not every Prophet is a Rasul [Apostle]. All Rasules were Nabi but all Nabis were not Rasuls.
A Prophet is always a Nabi by birth, but a prophet become Rasul when he officially receives the post and declares it. For example, our Prophet Muhammad (sws) was Nabi by birth, but became Rasul when he officially got and delivered the message of Risalat at the age of 40.
The Rasul [Apostle] receives the message from Allah Taala in many different manners such as, vision during sleep, direct communication with angels when he is awake. i.e., he can see and speak to the angels during communication of Divine message. But the Nabi [prophet] differs from the Rasul in that he does not see the angels when
awake but sees during sleep.
The Rasul is higher in rank than a Nabi.
Out of 25 Prophets mentioned in the Holy Quran, or among 124000 Nabis, Five were Rasul, and are called Ulu l-azm prophets, meaning those who possess a quality of determination and firmness.
The five Rasuls and Ulul-azm Prophets are:
1 - Hazrat Nooh (as)
2 - Hazrat Ibrahim (as)
3 - Hazrat Musa (as)
4 - Hazrat Isa (as)
5 - Hazrat Muhammad (sws)
Prophet Nooh(as) was given a Shari’ah which was followed by other prophets up to the time of Hazrat Ibrahim(as).
Prophet Ibrahim(as) was given a Shari’ah which remained in force up to the time of Hazrat Musa. i.e., Hazrat Yaqub, Hazrat Lut, Hazrat Yousuf (as) etc. followed the Shariat of Ibrahim.
Prophet Musa(as) was given a new Shari’ah which was followed by all the prophets of Bani Israel until the time of Hazrat Isa (as).
Prophet Isa (as) was given a new Shariat which remained in force upto the time of the Holy Prophet.
Prophet Muhammad (sws) was given the last and the most perfect Shariat which will remain in force up to the last working day of the world.
The Shariat -e- Muhammadi can never be changed as Prophet Muhammed (sws) is the last prophet and no prophet will come after him. Our Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (sws) has the highest position and rank among all the Prophets.

Examining the Word Nabi in the Quran
While the root word from which “Nabi” originates is used in different ways, such as “Naba’” (news), “Naba’tukuma” (inform you), “Anbaaka” (informed you), the terms Nabi and Nabieen/Anbiyaa (plural forms of Nabi) themselves are used in a very specific manner in the Holy Quran. From the approximately 80 instances wherein the words Nabi or Nabieen occur, not one of them refers to anything other than a Prophet of Allah.

al-Nabî
Classical Arabic definitions:
One to whom Allah gives information. One to whom Allah reveals secrets of the future. One to who Allah reveals that he is His prophet. One who discloses hidden matters. One who reveals information from on high.
One who has the gift of prophecy. One who acquaints or informs mankind. One who is acquainted or informed of matters of Allah and of things unseen. One who presents a clear or evident way that conducts to Allah.

From the Arabic root n-b-a' which developed the following meanings:
to give important news, information, announcement
to inform, tell or acquaint someone
In the following verse Joseph told to one of prisoner that I will tell you the truth of its interpretation
onabbiokum bitaweelihi

‪12:45 But the man who had been released, one of the two (who had been in prison) and who now bethought him after (so long) a space of time, said: "I will tell you the truth of its interpretation: send ye me (therefore)."‬

al-Rasûl
Classical Arabic definitions:

Rasul is also an Arabic word which is derived from the word, Risalat, meaning, to send. Thus, the meaning of Rasul is, one who is sent from Allah
Like in the previous case with the word “Nabi”, the root word has been used in different ways, with the terms “Arsalna”, “Arsala”, “’Yursil” sometimes referring to Allah sending Messengers, or to Allah sending a punishment, or at other times to a Ruler sending a delegation.
One who is an ambassador or envoy

The Quran claim that Allah has sent Warners to every nation. In fact, some of these verses imply that even prior to the coming of Muhammad, Allah had sent Warners to the Arabs:
To every people (was sent) a messenger: when their messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged. S. ‪10:47‬
The worshippers of false gods say: "If Allah had so willed, we should not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor our fathers,- nor should we have prescribed prohibitions other than His." So did those who went before them. S. 16:35-36 ·
But what is the mission of messengers but to preach the Clear Message? For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth). S. 16:35-36 ·
