THE STUDENT WHO CHALLENGED ME THE MOST! (Português nos comentários 🇧🇷 ⬇️: O ALUNO QUE MAIS ME DESAFIOU)
Imagine this scene: Caribbean 🌊, sunny day, (25) knots of 💨, the 🎵 Satisfy my soul by Bob Marley in the background, I - Rey - sitting on 🚤 in the open sea and 💣💥 Marie Jo having a panic attack in the water during her course 😱.
When Marie Jo decided to kitesurf it was a great battle 🤺 "I'm scared to death, but I want to learn," she told me.
The process was long and dramatic. But we both accepted the challenge, mine was to teach her and hers was to overcome fears 🤝
Marie Jo practiced ballet her whole childhood. At that time, she was a film producer living in the capital, with a collapsed schedule. She frequented a gym and, in her free time, used to go to the 🏝 or the 🏞 to relax. She loves reading 🤓 and Yoga 🧘♀️.
🔅To learn something new you have to make a decision, persevere, trust yourself and your teacher, be able to overcome defeats and enjoy while learning.
🔅To teach effectively, along with knowledge and didactics, it is necessary to practice empathy, actively listen and observe, understand and regulate student’s emotions and one’s too.
Without warning, while we taught each other, Marie Jo and I recognized the importance of emotional intelligence for learning, and 💡 was born.
For many years we've been creating and, consciously, experimenting a methodology that prioritizes the personalization of our courses, learner’s safety and autonomy🦸♂️ 🦸♀️
📝 With knowledge, didactics, strategy, technique, practice, patience and kindness, the comfort zone progressively expands, generating confidence and transforming fear into action, evolution and achievement.
🧐 Whenever I teach, be it beginners, advanced or wannabe instructors, I carefully observe body language to understand if there is fear, anxiety, doubt to design a plan considering each one’s needs and learning style.
I use mindful breathing as a tool to reduce stress and improve attention, concentration and memory 🔥
We all can indeed learn kiteboarding, new tricks or styles, in a safe and fun way 🚀Let’s go?
