📅 November 29 - World Jaguar Conservation Day

🐆 Celebrated for the first time on November 29, 2018, Jaguar International Day is a joint initiative of several countries with the presence of this feline.

🐆 It aims to raise awareness about the threats faced by this feline, inform about conservation efforts that ensure its survival, and about the fundamental role of the jaguar as a key species whose presence is indicative of a healthy ecosystem.

🐆 The jaguar is at the top of the food chain and is the largest terrestrial predator in America. Its current range extends from Mexico to northern Argentina and Paraguay. It weighs between 50 and 100kg and hunts wild animals weighing up to 300kg!

Here is a singular animal that you can meet during our hikes!

⚽️ Armadillos are a mammal group composed of several species native to tropical and subtropical America. Their particular characteristic is their bony shell. Indeed, it covers their back from the forehead to the tail, including the outer surface of the limbs. Moreover, some species can curl up into a ball in case of danger.

⚽️ That is the case of the three-banded armadillo, a species found only in Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil. For that reason, it became the official mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, hosted in Brazil. It was called Fuleco, and you know what? Its name is a portmanteau of the Portuguese words "futebol" (football) and "ecologia" (ecology).

How about getting to know the most famous postcard of Rio de Janeiro in more depth?

⛰ Anyone, inside or outside Brazil, associates Rio with that landscape: the Sugarloaf Mountain famous silhouette on the west of the entrance to Guanabara Bay. Its shape inspired many designers and artists, such as the writers of agent 007 and the Pão de Açúcar supermarkets logomark.

⛰ The cable car was inaugurated in 1912 and was the third of its kind in the world. The section that connects it to Morro da Urca, which belongs to the same complex, started to work the following year. It is also possible to climb it on a path, giving rise to an unforgettable hike that we offer to our customers. For more details, check our website!

🦜 A nature trail can lead to contact with many species of birds. One of the most popular in South America is the toucan. This beautiful bird nests with up to four eggs in tree hollows and holes dug by other animals, such as woodpeckers. We can meet them in pairs or small flocks.

🦜 Toucan is also a very known symbol in advertising. During the 1930s and 1940s, Guinness beer advertising featured this bird as a symbol. Another well-known advertisement is the Froot Loops cereal, whose mascot is an animated toucan named Sam.

🦜 Did you fall in love with it? Then join one of our hikes. Maybe you will run into one of those lovely birds on the trail!

🎥 Paramount Studios' films always start with the company's logo featuring a mountain that has become synonymous with cinema. It is known as Ben Lomond, with its peak in the northern portion of the Wasatch Mountains, north of Ogden, in the US state of Utah.

A popular trail passes through the summit, with an elevation of 2,961 meters, and is accessible from four different paths to the north, south, and east. Locals call it a peak, mount, and mountain. The official name has the prefix Ben, found in front of many Scottish mountains, including a homonymous one.

A bike trail leads to the summit of Ben Lomond and then continues east to a path at North Ogden Pass. It is one of the best mountain bike tours in Utah. The distance from the pass trail to the top of the mountain is 14 km.

🏔 The mountain has its image incorporated into the movie studio's logo because William W. Hodkinson, the co-founder of Paramount, was from the Ogden area. He would have initially drawn the image on a napkin during a meeting in 1914. Later it would be immortalized in the logo.

📅 Year: 2020
The Covid-19 pandemic appears, forcing people to stay at home to avoid the virus. Several sectors of the economy stopped, including tourism, one of the most affected. Estimates from organizations such as the UN indicate record losses.

📅 Year: 2022
With the end of the stricter measures, the tourism segment began to accelerate again. Travelers want to make up for the lost time. Habits have changed: people now desire trips with a greater connection with the environment and nature, which were out of touch in the period of isolation.

ℹ️ The term ecotourism has emerged as the newest trend in this sector, although it is not new. Travelers began to search more in search engines for terms like sustainability, ecotourism, environmental sustainability, and “green travel” to find destinations closer to nature and away from the concrete of big cities.

And what attracts you most in the search for a “green trip”?

✅ Stop wasting time and access our site to learn more about our ecological tours. You will get, for sure, one which is made for you, waiting to take you to places where you can feel all the power of nature and the planet.

October 24 – World Climate Change Awareness Day

⚠️ Do you know how climate change can affect your life? The general population needs to pay attention to this issue and take steps to reduce the impact such changes can have on the planet.

⚠️ The increasing number of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), is the first cause of global warming. So every time you use your car, for example, and expel these elements, you take part in the process. And it's not just humans who suffer from this: trees, an essential part of a city's daily life, are the first to show symptoms that can alter oxygen production.

✅ Collaborate by taking initiatives such as using natural resources responsibly, consuming with conscience, and supporting carbon-zero initiatives. Prioritize activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing energy consumption, such as choosing ecotourism instead of mass tourism. And you can do even more by booking through our website: we are committed to donating 5% of the profit to Instituto Ecoflora (), a local NGO that works on reforestation and environmental education in Rio de Janeiro.

Saving the planet means ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy world. Participate in this initiative! The future thanks you!

One of the most sought-after attractions by those who appreciate natural landscapes, the Iguaçu Falls are a spectacle apart from any tour. It is a set of 275 waterfalls on the Iguaçu River, belonging to the Paraná River basin.

🌊 The attraction is in the Iguaçu National Park, in Parana state, and the Iguazú National Park in Misiones, Argentina, located on the border between the two countries. The Brazilian park was created in 1939 and became official in 1986. From 2002 onwards, it became a national geological site.

🌊 It is the second most visited place by foreigners in the country. During the rainy season, it becomes the 3rd largest in the world in terms of volume of water. Its flow is about 11,300 cubic meters (4 Olympic-size swimming pools) per second when its normal one is 1,500.

Come check out the stunning view of this attraction: some say it's much better than other similar ones. Really? Find out for yourself!

October 18 - World Day for Nature Conservation

📅 On this date, we celebrate a day that makes us pay attention to the planet and serious issues such as the conservation of nature, ecosystems, and biodiversity. The date stands out because it reinforces the initiative of the nations that adhered to the UN 2030 Agenda, which determines that countries must take advantage of renewable resources that nature offers without depleting them.

So use the day to teach your children the importance of respecting nature. Explain to your children why it is good to develop the simple habits of recycling, reducing, reusing, caring for plants, and not wasting water or electricity. Some local NGOs take the date to carry out activities such as planting trees, making handicrafts, or cleaning beaches and parks. Inquire in your city.

Mark the date to reflect more on the role of nature in our lives. After all, life depends on it to continue. And so we must always protect it.

October 14 – World Botanic Gardens Day

On the second Friday of October, we celebrate this date, officialized by the International Botanic Garden Organization (BGCI) decree, whose principal purpose is to promote and highlight the importance of natural spaces. Botanic Garden documents collections of living plants to support scientific research, conservation, and education on flora issues.

Among the main functions of these spaces are:

🌿 Assist in the conservation of endemic plants and promote their sustainable use for the benefit of all; educate the population about species conservation.

🌿 Boost the growth of plants that may no longer exist in nature.

🌿 Positively impact society's physical and mental health, especially in urban spaces.

Moreover, these gardens contribute to the local and national economy as they are classic tourist attractions.

Here in Rio, the Botanic Garden is one of the most visited tourist attractions and is considered an ecological reserve or sanctuary. It is 214 years old and is one of the ten most important in the world.

Founded by Dom João in 1808 to help plants from the East Indies to adapt, it has among its illustrious inhabitants the Palma Mater or Palmeira Real, coming from the Antilles, one of the three oldest giant palm trees in the place and Garden symbol. The right place for those who want to know the diversity of Brazilian flora and connect with facts about Rio de Janeiro's history.

So come and discover the importance of nature and its impact on our lives. Discover the charms of your botanic garden!

October 04 – World Animal Day

📆 It is an international day of action for the rights and welfare of animals, celebrated annually on this date, which is also the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The movement is supported by numerous celebrities such as Anneka Svenska, Brian Blessed, and Melanie C.

ℹ The date came up with the cynologist Heinrich Zimmermann. He organized the first day on March 24, 1925, at the Palace of Sport in Berlin, Germany. More than 5,000 people attended this first event. The activity was due to happen on October 4 to coincide with the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. However, the location was not available that day. The event happened on October 4 for the first time in 1929. Every year, Zimmermann worked tirelessly to promote International Animal Day. Finally, in May 1931, at a congress of the International Congress for Animal Protection in Florence, Italy, his proposal to universalize the day on this date was unanimously accepted and adopted as a resolution.

🐒 During our tours, you can run into some animals (see the post pictures). Take a moment to feel the environment and the presence of animals on this day. Alone or in a group, they are the most outstanding inhabitants when preserving life as we know it is what matters.

Don´t forget to share this date!

⛰ The mountain known as Dedo de Deus (God´s Finger) is one of the biggest highlights of Brazilian tourism. It is 1.692 meters high (1,652 miles) and is located in Serra dos Órgãos, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, between the cities of Petrópolis, Guapimirim, and Teresópolis.

☝ The mountain´s shape looks like a hand with the index finger pointing to the sky, which is the origin of its name. It is a Rio de Janeiro symbol and inspires brands like the Lokal beer from Teresópolis.

Its fame has made it the symbol of Brazilian mountaineering and the place where the practice began. The first to reach the top were José Guimarães Teixeira, Raul Carneiro, and the brothers Américo, Alexandre, and Acácio de Oliveira, all from Teresópolis, in 1912. The first woman to climb was Luiza Caracciolo, an honorary member of the Brazilian Excursionist Center, who managed to get there in 1933.

For climbing, it is necessary to go through a trail that starts in the Serra de Guapimirim, close to the Paraíso da Serra restaurant. The climb itself takes between 12 and 24 hours.

Do you enjoy being in contact with nature?

🏔 Then hiking is the best option. But prepare yourself correctly, especially if you have never practiced this activity. Check out the main precautions.

1 - Plan ahead: research travel time, risk points, and mileage. And if there are camps or villages nearby for help in case of need.

2 - Wear light clothes: even in cold weather, put them under a waterproof jacket that cuts the cold. Prefer your trekking shoes and never wear a new one.

3 - Food: the most experienced say you have to take light food packaged and plenty of water.

4 - Walk accompanied: always try to have someone around. Don't go hiking alone, because problems happen precisely at these times.

5 - Pay extra attention: ribbons on the vegetation or arrows on the rocks can indicate the correct path. Always carry a whistle and a flashlight to help in case of need.

6 - Take a stick: climbing can harm knees and legs. Always use this item, preferably suitable for hiking, with built-in springs.

⚠ When walking a trail, always try to respect nature. Do not leave rubbish on the way as it can be highly harmful to plants and animals. And don't trust your cell phone: there are places where signals are impossible to pick up. So the more physical your stuff, the less likely you are to be caught off guard.

September 19 - World Snake Bite Awareness Day

🐍 International Day of Attention to Ophidian Accidents, as the date is officially known, was created by a group of associations that act in favor of tropical medicine. It aims to increase awareness about the impact snakebites have on the population of certain countries.

ℹ Each year, the World Health Organisation estimates that about 138 thousand people die from these crawling beings. Another 400,000 are disfigured or disabled because of the bites. Just in Brazil, an average of 29,000 cases occur.

⚠ Most cases of bites happen on the arms or legs. That's why it's necessary to follow simple tips like always wearing closed shoes, leggings, or high boots; watch where you step or use your hands for support, and do not rummage holes in the ground or hollow tree trunks without adequate protection.

September 16th – International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

⚠️ Let's value life on the planet by preserving our natural protection against UV rays!

ℹ️ The date was set in 1994 by the United Nations to remember the signing of the Montreal Protocol, held in 1987. This treaty establishes measures to control the worldwide consumption of chemical agents that deplete the ozone layer.

✅ Help with preservation: do not buy products such as aerosols with chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Choose pump sprays rather than pressurized bottles!

Playing sports is excellent for health, but we can't forget to keep our bodies always hydrated, even if we don't have the habit of consuming a lot of water.

🚰 Any physical activity requires a minimum of 150 ml of fluid every 20 minutes to replace sweat. In moderate and variable activities, such as hiking, you need to drink water more often because of the effects of varying altitudes.

🚰 Dehydration generates a lack of energy and is easily confused with the mere effect of walking. Therefore, if you embark on a trail, plan ahead and always try to calculate the amount of liquid you need to ingest. Use an alarm to remind you to drink some water at 20-minute intervals.

🏔 Among the many iconic mountain images, one of the best known and most publicized is that of the Matterhorn or Cervin, in French, at the border of Switzerland and Italy. This great pyramidal peak is one of the highest mountains in the Alps and Europe. Since the 18th century, the Alps have fascinated generations of explorers and climbers. The Matterhorn was little known, a situation that only changed in 1865.

During the 20th century, its image was an inspiration for several artists and film producers such as Luis Trenker and Walt Disney. Furthermore, its image has appeared on the Toblerone chocolate brand since the 1960s. Even today, the ridge inspires graphic artists in all kinds of advertising.

Este é o QUATI, animal típico da Floresta da Tijuca no Rio de Janeiro. Eles costumam andar em bandos e “roubam” o lanche nos pic-nics para alegria de todos.

This is the coati, a common animal from the Tijuca Forest in Rio de Janeiro. They usually walk in packs and "steal" the snack at picnics for everyone's joy.
