Among these cays are Great Exuma and Little Exuma, with Great Exuma extending about 37 miles, making it the largest in the chain, while Little Exuma, connected by a bridge, measures roughly 11 miles. As of the last update, the population of Great Exuma was approximately 7,300 people.🇧🇸🏖️

"When is the best time to visit Exuma" is a common question.

Here is our breakdown based solely on our experiences. (Certainly not an exact science!!)

The 3 Seasons of Exuma:

High Season – Mid December – Mid April

Pros

· Exuma is at its liveliest during this time, with lots of festivals, regattas, and other events. This is a great time to travel with kids, as there are lots of activities across the island around this time.

· Weather tends to be the mildest during this time. Balmy and dry with a little “Caribbean Chill” (Not to be confused with “Chilly”)

· “Not too hot, not too cold” Describes Exuma all year round but especially in January & February.

Cons

· Traveling to the Bahamas between mid-December and mid-April in general tends to be more expensive.

· Higher occupancy rates make finding that place you have had your heart set on more difficult. Flexibility is a necessity when finding lodging.

· Windier conditions during these months are more likely to impact boating during this time.

Shoulder Season – Mid-April – July

Pros

· Lower occupancy means easier flight availability, less “Crowded” & less expensive.

· Flight prices tend to be moderate to low cost.

· After several months of calmer weather, the waters tend to be clearer and more wildlife migrate to Exuma making Snorkeling and SCUBA Diving ideal.

Cons

· The wet season in the Caribbean begins in June so you might experience some rain here and there. Caribbean storms rarely last more than a few minutes with a rare “wash-out.”

Low Season – August – Mid December

Pros

· The best flight deals tend to be in the low season, so if you’re on a budget, this is the ideal time to travel.

· The island is less crowded, which is great if you desire a more personalized experience.

· Prices are at their lowest for lodging and many hosts will offer further discounts for occupancy

Cons

· Many of the locals use the low season to vacation themselves so many restaurants are on a reduced schedule.

· Higher chance of rain during this time and the heart of Hurricane Season. Check with your host ahead of time to make sure a full refund is available in the event of a storm. Better hosts will offer 100% refunds for stays that do not happen. The best hosts will refund partial visits due to weather.

- Due to lower occupancy, airlines tend to cut back on flights to Exuma and may cancel flights. Again, your host should work with you if your trip is impacted.

Sea water temperature in George Town is expected to drop to 77.7°F in the next 10 days. December average water temperature in George Town is 78.4°F, the minimum temperature is 74.3°F, and the maximum is 82°F.
The swimming season in George Town lasts from January to December, twelve months per year! During those months, George Town water temperature does not drop below 68°F and therefore suitable for comfortable swimming. The average water temperature in George Town in winter reaches 77.4°F, in spring 79°F, in summer the average temperature rises to 84.6°F, and in autumn it is 83.3°F.

Our first guests left our first review.

Victoria and Jeff’s condo was a perfect place to stay for us! Hideaways is a gated community with bar, game room, beach beds, kayaks and pedal boards on it territory! Splash bar has tons of options to eat. It is 15 min away from the airport, 10 min away from Georgetown, 5 min walk to Jolly Hall ( one of the amazing beaches on the island. Condo was basically right on the water too. They had an incredible stuff and even shuttle that can take to Georgetown. Condo was well equipped with everything we needed. They had sunscreen, bug spray, first aid kit and even beach bag and towels that we use everyday. Place was extremely clean and well organized. I can also say it had a personal touch - you can tell people who own it really care about the place and guests. There is a little area where you can sit outside right next to the condo - we always had breakfast there with the ocean view. Jeff and Victoria were very helpful with all questions we had, gave us idea on some island tour and fruit stands. I absolutely would come back and stay there again! 100%recommend Sandbox in Hideaways!
