Hi I’m Sandy’s Suitcase also known as the Captain that travels. As most other Bahamians, I first got my passport probably around 6 months old. my earliest memory of travel was going to Miami with my family, because in the Bahamas that’s how we vacation. We go to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale to shop and we go to Orlando for the theme parks- it’s a right of passage.
However my international travel journey started with me being thrown feet first into the fire. While in my final semester in college I was hired by a Fortune 500 company and got orders to fly to the Phillipines shortly after graduation for orientation and training. And then had to fly to the Middle East to join my vessel. The rest as they say is history!

Being pushed into solo travel was what I needed to get me out of my shell and thrust into the world. I hope I inspire you to travel deeper and to face your fears.

When I first started traveling for work and my company was flying me to exotic destinations all over the world, I would come back home and be so excited to tell my family and friends about all the cool places I had seen, and all the amazing things I had done. I quickly realized that they weren’t interested because it seemed impossible that they would ever go these places or have these experiences. Sooo I stopped sharing. Then I found IG and started building a community of persons that had the same interests as me. If it’s one thing solo travel has allowed, it has been the quiet and uninterrupted time to reflect. Time heals all wounds- I don’t believe this; but let enough time go by and although we may not always forgive or receive forgiveness the pain becomes less.
I had a friend in college whom I loved dearly. Learned years later she was in a secret competition with me, and betrayed me over something so minor, and even though many years have passed it still boggles my mind how you could have such good intentions towards someone and they’re literally praying for your downfall. I always used to hear my Grammy say that, but I never believed it until I happened to me. Now my circle is tight and I’ve learned the value of discernment.
I value relationships, which is why I am so happy with the community I’ve built here on Instagram. A true sisterhood. Wishing you all a blessed 2023 with all your goals being realized and your territory expanded.
