Taksang Monastery built in 1692 AD by Gyelse Tenzin Rabgay, is Bhutan's most iconic landmark and religious site. It is the place where the great ta***ic master Padmasambhava meditated. The monastery clings to a cliff, about 2950 meters above the sea level. The monastery is located high up on the side of the upper paro valley. It is the most popular touristic destinations and the cultural icon of Bhutan. The main peculiarity of the monastery is its isolated location and accessible only by the mountainous path where you need to hike four hours for a round trip. The remote location of the monastery makes it amazingly unique and beautiful, but also creates technical difficulties.
Visiting this monastery will definitely remain as your unforgettable Bhutan experience and memory.
