Laya, Bhutan is a remote village in Gasa District in far north Bhutan, very close to the Tibetan border. It is inhabited by the indigenous Layap people, and is the highest inhabited settlement in the Bhutan.

Layaps have lived here since they were banished from Tibet in the 15th century and that the Layap women have used their distinctive hat, made of darkened bamboo strips woven together with a pointed top, even longer- (see in picture).

TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT

The Tourism Council of Bhutan will be conducting Driglam Namzha Course for Tour Guides in February, 2020 at Royal Institute for Tourism & Hospitality (RITH), Motithang, Thimphu from 03rd- 15th February, 2020 with intake of 100 participants in each batch.
