The tradition of building houses, temples and dzongs with wood and soil (traditional Jangkhim) in and across Bhutan. Manually rammed by people using wooden stamping tools, dancing and singing in the process. Many of our dzongs(Fortresses) and Temples were all built with stones, wood and mud over the centuries, which symbolizes the rich culture, tradition and the history of Bhutan.

The boulders on this hilltop are generally in the shape of ‘Mandala Offerings,’ and thus the holy place is known as ‘Do Mendrel. According to legend, the son of the first monarch of Sikkim (‘Dren Jong’, rice valley), Chador Namgyal, was a close friend of Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye in the 17th century AD. One day, he was invited to Sikkim for the consecration rites of the former’s Palace at ‘Dren Jong’ (present-day Sikkim). Despite being unable to attend due to his advanced age, Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye set an auspicious time for the consecration ceremony, during which he threw some grains into the air and made a ‘sorr’ noise. Simultaneously with that noise, certain grains of good fortune and tremendous auspiciousness are supposed to have mysteriously descended straight into the Palace of his close friend, Sikkim’s first king, as mentioned above.
There are two lakes (Lha Tsho) of God and Naga. They are claimed to belong to our Protector deities Pal Yeshey Goenpo and Yidam Tandin.
The Tsho or the lake is also known for the tragic incident in the lives of 6 young boys who went for hiking to Domendrel Tsho and lost 2 of their friends to starvation. The six boys lost their ways after unknowingly infuriating the local deity by defiling the lake in 1996. They are said to have reached Punakha. Even a movie “6 Boys” was made based on the true event in 2003.
The hike starts from Dodena, the base of Tango-Cheri monastery and it takes about 5 hours from the base.

Dungtsho (Lake) is becoming a popular day hike in Thimphu. Dungtsho Lake is located at an altitude of 4250m above sea level. Dungtsho is situated wonderfully in the middle of a cliff with no water source. The name of the lake derived from dungkhar (white conch ) because the lake is said to contain two conches, a male and female one.
It's about 12hrs 30 mins hike for us for a round trip and it can take more also...

I shall give you everything and keep nothing; I shall live such a life as a good human being that you may find it worthy to serve as an example for your children; I have no personal goals other than to fulfill your hopes and aspirations. Dechen Phodrang Ney is located at an altitude 2250m in Womanang at Tashi Yangtse. The monastery is hidden in a very idyllic valley amid huge boulders near a stream.
Guru Rinpoche travelled to Dechen Phodrang via Paro Taktsang, Kurtoe Singye Dzong, Bumthang Kurje, Mongar Aja Ney, Pemaling Ney and Gomphu Kora Ney in Trashi Yangtse. Dechen Phodrang Is one of the sacred places in Bhutan.

Omba Ney - Taktshang of eastern Bhutan. It is one of the three holy places linked to Guru Rinpoche, where the letter Om can be seen on the rock face, the other two letters Ah and Hum can be seen at Mongar and Paro. Guru Rinpoche meditated two months in a cave, where now a small temple was built over the cave.

Gongza (Gungja) Nye is located at about 950m above sea level, just next to Gongri (Drangme) Chhu and it's linked with Guru Rimpoche, who was offered tea here by khandro Yeshey Tshogyal when subduing a demon in the area. It is about 3 hrs walk downhill from Jangphu and kheni village. There is a small temple built into an overhanging rock. The temple holds a petrified treasure box, shoe of Guru Rimpoche, devil’s egg, and many other relics. Many sacred places are submerged in summer, so pilgrims mainly visit in winter and spring. The area is full of oddly shaped rocks and is hot and humid in summer.

Neychen Dongkola (3370m) located on the hilltop was About 2 hours drive from Paro shaba. The drive was bumpy but it's worth visiting with spectacular views of mount jomolhari, jichu drakye, Gangkar puensum and many more.

Traditional Day of Offering 'Chunipa Losar' is an seasonal annual offering of grains to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (Unifier) after the completion of Punakha Dzong construction in 17th century. The Trongsa Penlop is said to have led the representatives of eight eastern regions in their offerings, as the Paro Penlop coordinated the people of western Bhutan and the Daga Ponlop oversaw the people of the south. In this regard, some people place a great significance on this New Year as a marker of Bhutan’s sovereignty and solidarity.
As a tradition new year begins with morning porridge, tea, biscuits and so on..
Later in lunch with different varieties of dishes such as dry pork, beef, chickens, fishes, chilli cheese, fried cheese and eggs, and many other special vegetable dishes🤗. It is followed by various sports like archery, dart, dances with home brewed ara . Most importantly it's time for family reunion after busy everyday chores...😁
