The Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue located in the mountains of Bhutan, built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
The construction began in 2006 with an initial planned completion date of October 2010; however, the project was finalized on 25th September 2015. The completed statue stands as one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, measuring 177 feet (54 m) in height. It is adorned with 100,000 8-inch-tall and 25,000 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas.
