Embark on an unforgettable adventure: Discover the new Jo Bay Tsho Trek in Haa, Bhutan

Visitors can hike through serene landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and folklore on an epic journey through the breath-taking trek
Thimphu, Bhutan (March 21, 2024): Bhutanโ€™s Department of Tourism is pleased to announce a beautiful new Jo Bay Tsho Trek in Haa, a stunning valley located in the south-west region of the country, a 2-hour drive from Paro. This two-day trek spans approximately 25 kilometres, beginning with an 84-kilometre drive from Sangbaykha village to Mochhu, a picturesque place surrounded by progressive farming communities, immersing themselves in the beauty of Bhutan's rural landscapes. The journey commences with a visit to a temple of high cultural significance, housing 1,000 statues of Guru Rinpoche, setting the stage for a spiritually enriching experience. Accommodation options include a campsite conveniently located just one kilometre away from the Jo Bay Tsho Trek, providing visitors with a comfortable base to explore this picturesque region.

Located in the south-Western part of Bhutan, the Jo Bay Tsho Trek promises a perfect blend of challenge and tranquility for visitors seeking an unforgettable adventure amidst stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and folklore. This trek offers a scenic journey through forests, majestic mountains, and serene lakes, providing an experience that is bound to leave an enduring mark on every traveler. Although the summer season may present some challenges for trekkers, generally, one can reach the end point with relative ease.

As travelers make their way along the gently sloping trail, they encounter lush green forests, dense clusters of bamboo, and rich nature. The path meanders through wooded areas, occasionally revealing expansive pastures and slightly challenging narrow passages. Throughout the journey, glimpses of wild animals and peaceful lakes add to the serene ambiance. Visitors will also be greeted by the locals on the way with warm hospitality.

The most exciting part of the journey is to see the Jo Bay Tsho (Hidden Lake), which is a beautiful lake that spans some 300m lengthwise, and about 200m breadthwise. On a clear day, one can have an unobstructed view of the lake.

โ€œAs we unveil the Jo Bay Tsho trekking route, we invite travelers to embark on a journey of discovery amidst beautiful landscapes and cultural richness. This new route promises an unforgettable adventure, blending the beauty of nature with the warmth of Bhutanese hospitality,โ€ concluded Dorji Dhradhul, the Director General of the Department of Tourism-Bhutan.

5-day Facility Quarantine to be lifted from 4 July 2022

This is to inform the public that the five-day facility quarantine for all incoming travelers will be lifted starting 4 July 2022.

While we acknowledge the implications and inconveniences the arrangement has caused to the travelers so far, it was intended to reinforce and protect our country and communities from COVID-19, which is still in the โ€œpandemicโ€ stage. Since the transition into Phase II, we have continuously seen a low positivity rate (1.46 percent) and promising trends of zero fatalities and hospitalisations until date.

Therefore, taking into consideration these positive developments, a new arrangement of โ€œ๐“๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ-๐š๐ง๐-๐†๐จโ€ system (mandatory stay home/hotel quarantine for 24 hours or until negative RT-PCR result is declared) will be instituted effective from ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ’, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ where the stay home/hotel duration will be strictly monitored.

Upon arrival at the point of entry, while ๐‘๐“-๐๐‚๐‘ test sample will be collected, a proof of vaccination certificate or evidence of COVID-19 infection in the six months prior to the visit will have to be produced. Anyone testing positive will be required to self-isolate for five days at home/hotel.

Besides Paro, Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrupjongkar, the test results at other points of entry may take more than 24 hours due to non-availability of RT-PCR testing facility. Those already undergoing the five-day quarantine and who have tested negative will be allowed to end their quarantine as per the โ€œTest-and-Goโ€ protocol from July 4, 2022.

As we cautiously move forward, vaccination and booster will be a critical tool in our collective effort to end the pandemic.

This is a significant milestone in the country's fight against the pandemic. From the non-compromising 21-day to 14-day to five-day quarantine system, and now being able to do away with it completely is a feat we have all achieved together. It has served the purpose of securing the nation from the disease and its multiple variants.

We thank all the frontliners and the general public for your exceptional support and solidarity in our fight against the dreadful virus.
