Bhutan launched its National Service, Gyalsung (loosely translates to guardians of the nation) today. A Royal Vision turned into reality by His Majesty The King.

Without a doubt, this will go down in the history of Bhutan as one of the greatest milestones in nation building.

Some are saying this is an Olympic favourite moment- crowd cheering & the “guard of honor” presented for Kinzang Lhamo who was the last to complete the marathon has been described as an extraordinary moment in live sport.

Bhutanese living in Brussels including the Ambassador of Bhutan in Brussels can be seen running along her side cheering her on 🔥. Crowd chanting “bravo, bravo, bravo.”

Bravo, Kinzang Lhamo, bravo!

Kinzang Lhamo’s debut Olympic marathon run will surely remain a memorable one.

If resilience has a name, it’s Kinzang Lhamo ❤️🔥

🇧🇹❤️ Ok, we might have a new favourite moment from Paris!

Bhutan's Kinzang Lhamo dropped off the back of the pack almost straight off the start line. And while the other runners who fell back with her in those opening seconds all failed to finish, Lhamo, some FOUR HOURS LATER, received a hero's welcome from a roaring and still packed crowd at the finish line.

She was walking and accepting water from the crowd, before making sure she ran the last kilometre or so. She finished 80th, almost an hour after 79th and she was cheered on like a champion. Glorious scenes.

"There is an element of valuable novelty, of something exceptional, about visiting Bhutan that, once lost, is difficult if not impossible to recapture. Bhutan has a quality that many countries have long lost -- a special mystique about the place that is sustained by the relatively low number of people who have actually visited. In the words of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck: “People who make it to Bhutan feel privileged to be our guests.” Indeed, what Bhutan offers carries a unique resonance with the deepest
human yearning to be closer to culture and to be able to appreciate nature in its glorious, untarnished state. This is something precious and deserves to be preserved," Koh Buck Song.

Here’s an old footage of the Chief Pilot of Bhutan Airlines , Mr Chenga, showcasing Sam Chui how landing is managed in one of the most challenging airports in the world, Paro International Airport.

Source: Sam Chui’s YouTube channel. Sam Chui is one of the most well known aviation commentators. When he uploaded this, his audiences were blown away by Chief Pilot Chenga’s expertise combined with his cool & nonchalant manners.

Some comments read:

“Captain Badass is hand flying, in a descant path, curving through the mountains while pointing at all the monasteries like he’s a tour guide. What a legend.”

“Love this captain. Turns off GPWS, prays, and then starts hand flying through a canyon pointing out the sights. What an amazing guy”

“That is the most stable unstablised approach I ever saw. Awesome!”

“The captain exudes confidence, knowledge, ability and humility. I immediately felt relaxed watching the video and would place my family lives in this man’s hands. The brief prayer is a touch. Best of luck Captain Chenga”

“His stick and rubber flying was so smooth and precise it looked like a well choreographed dance….true high quality airmanship here folks!”

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TAG CAPTAIN CHENGA?!

Guest review:

“ The arrangements were good - the hotels were really excellent, and in this low season they provided upgrades to suites. The farmhouse was a highlight for me as it was a chance to meet a family and see real life.
The feedback is all good! I had a lovely time.

Sonam was fantastic. He’s a very knowledgeable, patient, professional person. He really made me feel at home in Bhutan, especially while traveling on my own. He was very active in seeking my view on how everything was going and I was sad to leave!

Mr. Nima the driver was also great. Very safe driver, always early. Highly professional person who made great recommendations for the logistics.

All in all, an awesome trip that is recommend to anyone!!”

Thank you Mr Haven for choosing Eco Peak to organise your maiden trip to Bhutan, and for your wonderful words.

Until we meet again…

A monk preparing Troma/Trom (religious cake offerings) for Choku/Lochoe.

Choku/Lochoe is an annual religious affair conducted in Bhutanese homes mainly to thank the tutelary deities for the blessings received in the previous year, and to offer prayers for a prosperous year ahead.

Besides, it also serves as a social event. Immediate and extended family members living away from the village come home for this ritual, including the coming together of locals alike. It is often the most awaited and festive event of the year for the family.

On HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck's birth occasion, we would like to share HRH's opening address during the Smithsonia Folklife Festival in 2008- delivered with charm, wit & clarity. We do not call HRH the Prince Charming for nothing :)

Happy Birthday, la.

The Bhutan program at the prestigious 2008 Smithsonia Festival was the largest and the most comprehensive celebration of Bhutanese life and culture ever presented outside of the kingdom (then). One hundred and fifty Bhutanese participants provided Festival visitors an unparalleled opportunity to see, hear, touch, smell, and experience life in the “Land of the Thunder Dragon.”
