Bhutan Birding BHUTAN BIRDS:

Bhutan has close to 800 species of birds, rivaling the combined 925 species found in all of North America.

From among those, at least 16 species are considered globally threatened, and 10 fall within the restricted range, according to Bird Life International. Bhutan is home to one of the most endangered bird species in the world, the White-bellied Heron. The country also has a large number of other globally endangered bird species, such as the Himalayan Monal, Ward’s Trogon, Beautiful Nuthatch, Blyth’s

Tragopan, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Chestnut-breasted Partridge, Wood Snipe, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, and Blyth’s Kingfisher, to name a few. A short strtech of 26 kilometres of broad-leaved forests in eastern Bhutan, found between Sengore and Yongkola in Mongar district, is considered by most visiting birders as the “Birding Capital of the World.”
