The current vice-captain of the Bhutan National Women’s cricket team, Anju Gurung has been selected to participate in the first world FairBreak Invitational Women’s Cricket tournament to be staged in Hong Kong in May 2022.

The FairBreak Invitational tournament is also the first privately funded tournament for women’s cricket organized by FairBreak Global and will be in conjunction with the National Cricket Association of Hong Kong.

Anju Gurung will play from one of the six teams along with some of the world’s greatest international female cricketers.

Upon her selection, Bhutan Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Damber Gurung said, “It is great news for our women’s cricket and for many associate member countries like Bhutan to get such opportunity to display their talent.”

“I had written to the Managing Director of FairBreak Global Mr. Shaun Martyn after learning about the tournament and as per requirements I had sent preliminary videos of some potential players from Bhutan and luckily Anju was selected,” he said.

Anju shared her excitement and said, “As a cricketer, we always look to play on such big stages and platforms and I am really looking forward to playing in Hong Kong along with those big names.” “I would personally like to thank Bhutan Cricket for giving me this pathway and opportunity.”

Buddhism is the major religion in Bhutan. Vajrayana Buddhism is the state religion of Bhutan, and Buddhists comprise two-thirds to three-quarters and Hinduism one-quarter of its population.Although the Buddhism practiced in Bhutan originated in Tibetan Buddhism, it differs significantly in its rituals, liturgy, and monastic organization. The state religion has long been supported financially by the government through annual subsidies to Buddhist monastery, shrines, monks, and nuns. In the modern era, support of the state religion during the reign of Third King Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck includes the manufacture of 10,000 gilded bronze images of the Buddha, publication of elegant calligraphied editions of the 108-volume Kangyur (Collection of the Words of the Buddha) and the 225-volume Tengyur (Collection of Commentaries), and the construction of numerous chorten (stupas) throughout the country

The Memorial Stupa, Thimphu, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa in Thimphu, Bhutan, located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital. The stupa was built by Her Majesty ,Queen Phuntsho Choden Wangchuk in memory of her Royal son the third Druk Gyalpo King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck(1928–1972) in 1974 , is a prominent landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. In 2008, it underwent extensive renovation. It is popularly known as "the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan".It was consecrated by Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje.
This stupa is unlike others as it does not enshrine human remains. Only the Druk Gyalpo’s photo in a ceremonial dress adorns a hall in the ground floor. When he was alive,Druk Gyalpo King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck wanted to build "a chorten to represent the mind of the Buddha".

The protected areas of Bhutan are its national parks, nature preserves, and wildlife sanctuaries. Most of these protected areas were first set aside in the 1960s, originally covering most of the northern and southern regions of Bhutan. Today, protected areas cover more than 42% of the kingdom, mostly in the northern regions. Protected areas also line most of Bhutan's international borders with China and India.
