‘In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Section 112 of the Constitution of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr Mokweetsi E.K. Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, has appointed Mr Cornelius Karlens Dekop, the Governor of the Bank of Botswana with effect from 23rd October 2023.

Mr Dekop, who has a Master of Arts degree in Development Economics from William College, the United States of America, has had an illustrious career in the Botswana civil service and the African Development Bank, spanning more than 28 years. He has an extensive experience in management of public finances and budget.

Mr Dekop is the former Executive Director, Southern Africa Group I Constituency, African Development Bank, from August 2019 to July 2022. He was the Permanent Secretary in the then Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy from April 2018 to May 2019. From August 2011 to March 2018 he was the Secretary for Development and Budget in the then Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

Furthermore, Mr Dekop has served in several Boards in different capacities such as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Diamond Trading Company Botswana, Director in the Board of DEBSWANA and Director in the Board of De Beers Group.’
