SPOTLIGHT ON: CHOBE SAFARI LODGE
The Chobe Safari Lodge lies on the border of the Chobe National Park, on the banks of the Chobe River near Kasane. The lodge is located at a unique intersection of four African countries (Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia) and is therefore an excellent stop-over for travelers to Chobe, Victoria Falls or Namibia’s Zambezi Region (the Caprivi). The location is also convenient for those flying in, as Victoria Falls International Airport, Livingstone International Airport and Kasane International Aiport are in close proximity and easily accessible.
Chobe Safari Lodge's main complex is a large thatched building which houses the reception, a large restaurant, a cocktail bar, curio shop, small salon and an activity booking office. Nearby is a large pool surrounded by loungers and a patio area with tables and chairs overlooking the river. The thirsty traveller can visit the Sedudu Bar, that overlooks the Chobe River and floodplains and is also a great spot to have sundowners.
The lodge offers 46 safari rooms, 22 river rooms and 8 rondavels to its visitors. The safari rooms have air-conditioning, TV, en-suite bathroom and private patios. The river rooms have similar facilities, but some have two twin bedrooms that are suitable for small family groups. The thatched rondavels are located near the river and has en-suite bathrooms, a ceiling fan and a small deck. A campsite is also available and offers power points, a bar and ablution facilities.
Game drives within the Chobe National Park offer the opportunity to view the abundant elephant and other big game species up close, as well as the possibility of an encounter with one of the large predators. Game drives depart three times a day, alternatively there is an option of booking a full or half-day drive with a picnic lunch. Chobe River cruises have to be one of the finest game-viewing experiences in Africa, and with over 80,000 elephant in the park alone, they are a very frequent sighting. Hippo, water birds, buffalo, crocodile and puku are also viewed from the river.
Fishing for the legendary tiger fish and several species of bream provides an exciting fishing experience. Equipment is provided, and a knowledgeable guide is on hand for all expeditions.
