: Shakawe

What was once a sleepy outpost on the northwest boarder of Botswana, the town of Shakawe has now become an attraction to both local and international tourists.

The small town located at the start of the Okavango Delta is often regarded as an exit or entrance into Botswana or a starting point for a visit to the World Heritage site, Tsodilo Hills, located approximately 40 kilometres away. The pride and conservation of the ancient cultures and archaeological sites are deeply entrenched in the people's lives, whom are more than willing to teach you about the area and it’s wildlife and history.

: Tsodilo Hills

With one of the highest concentrations of rock art in the world, Tsodilo Hills rises abruptly from the Kalahari scrub bush with its quartzite schist main Male, Female and Child hills. This UNESCO World Heritage site is captivating in both its formation and undeniable mystery.

The hills are of spiritual significance for the region’s original inhabitants, the San. More than 4, 500 prehistoric rock paintings are spread over the 10 km2 Kalahari Desert site featuring two famous images: the rhino polychromes and the Eland panel.
