The Helicopter Horizons family extends our heartfelt congratulations to Letsile School-boy Tebogo for making history in the men’s 200m event at the Olympics by winning Botswana’s first-ever gold medal 🇧🇼🥇. We are immensely proud of this remarkable achievement and would love to offer him a complimentary helicopter flight as a token of our admiration - if anyone knows him, please let him know!
Flamingos painting the Makgadikgadi Pans in bursts of colour. These birds migrate between November and April, when the water is high enough to mould their nests, before flocking to the pans. They’re known to stick around as long as there is sufficient water in the area. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to possibly see these magnificent birds contrasted against their surroundings. Each year we experience ‘the flood’ here in the Okavango Delta. At this time of year, an influx of rainwater has already pushed right from the meandering river of the north through to the seasonal floodplains on the delta’s periphery.
Our Maun population eagerly awaits its arrival into town each year, whether it’s arriving to replenish our river or to bring it back to life again. This year our riverbed in Maun is dry, so the phenomenon of water trickling meter by meter is all we can talk about. The waters passed the very edge of the delta last weekend, meaning it should be flowing through Maun in a matter of days!
Needless to say we are all very excited!

🇧🇼 This experience combines a visit to two community coexistence projects located in a remote part of the Okavango Delta. Human & Wildlife conflict is a daily reality for many people living remotely in Botswana.
The CLAWS project is run by the community to reduce carnivore conflict and benefit livestock owners with veterinary assistance and improved rangelands. The Life With Elephants project, located in the traditional Hambukushu village of Eretsha was created by the conservation NGO Ecoexist, in an effort to increase the benefits coming back to communities that coexist with elephants.
