Zebra numbers are nearly at their peak at Leroo La Tau. As the anticipation of rain grows stronger, they gather around the Boteti River, which stretches its limbs in full view from your room. This stunning setting transforms your early mornings and evenings on your private deck into something especially spectacular. With a warm brew in hand, starting and ending your day becomes an affair marked by monochromatic stripes—trunks, tusks and horns, too. #desertdelta #botswana #wildlife #safari #luxurytravel #nature #travelafrica
As our cherished Pel's Fishing Owl at Camp Xakanaxa matures, its once plain juvenile feathers are starting to reveal the stunning markings of adulthood. Unlike the plain feathers of its younger days, adult owls, like this youngster's parents, boast a rich ginger-rufous coloration with intricate dark bars on their upperparts and scaling on their underparts. What better way for this young owl to show off its new plumage than by making a splash in our camp's central water feature? #desertdelta #wildlife #botswana
Unusual Leopard Sighting at Savute
One of our Specialist Guides, Isaac Mpuchane, recently witnessed an extraordinary sighting: two male leopards mating with a single female leopard, consecutively. “This behaviour was a first for all the guides present and left us all in awe,” says Isaac.
“The scene seemed typical at first, as we observed the female and the larger male engaging in mating behaviour while a younger male lurked nearby. However, to our astonishment, when one male dismounted the female, what we thought was a subadult male immediately took his place.”
It’s been a few days since the first sighting, and the incredibly unusual behaviour has persisted. “The interaction defied our expectations and challenged our understanding of leopard behaviour,” Isaac adds.
Such a sighting underscores the unpredictability of wildlife and the endless possibilities that nature holds, making each day in Savute a new adventure.

Moremi Mealtime
Predators are maintaining their dominance in Moremi Game Reserve this peak season. Over the weekend, lions were on the prowl—with buffalo on the menu. In a clash of strength versus numbers, seven lionesses emerged victorious and will enjoy being well-fed, at least for the moment.

The Circle of Life
It's peak season for apex predators in Botswana, and a group of wild dogs was recently seen near Savute with a litter of new pups. Unfortunately, we were reminded of nature's brutality when a group of sub-adult lions discovered the den. Lions, being larger and more powerful predators, overpowered the adult dogs, resulting in the loss of some of their pups. Where predators thrive, so does competition—a vivid reminder of the circle of life.
Our incredible guide, Isaac Mpuchane, captured footage of the aftermath. He says that he remains hopeful for the future of the pack.

Our Moremi Mama has been on the move, healthy cubs in tow. With aunty’s help and watchful eyes for extra protection, the cubs have been more and more confident exploring their future territory. As the cubs grow, so does their appetite for play. Mom is gently learning alongside her young, while the second adult female here might be taking careful notes.🐾 #desertdelta #botswana #campmoremi

"I love flowers. I love little things," says our Xugana Island Lodge guide and mokoro expert, Bevan. Exploring the Delta's channels this way, by traditional canoe, is a special opportunity to slow down and see the small miracles that make this mighty ecosystem year-round. Learning how elephants and hippos create paths and how tiny reed frogs move in to take care of the mosquitos is all part of this awe-inspiring activity. #desertdelta #okavangodelta #botswanasafari

The Okavango Delta undergoes an annual flooding event, breathing life and vitality into the region. This phenomenon is triggered by heavy rains in Angola’s highlands, over 1000 km away. These rains fill the Okavango River, which then meanders southward into Botswana. Upon reaching the delta, the river fans out, forming an intricate web of channels, lagoons, and islands across the landscape. #desertdelta #okavangodelta #botswana 🎥: @the_traveling_flatt / Instagram
Leopard life in Moremi has been especially entertaining over the last few days. One female, a seven-year-old mother and park veteran, has been doing her best to instil some hunting prowess into her cub, a quirky male. Let’s just say he’s having a spot of trouble keeping up. So, their focus has been on birds and tree squirrels. One of our guides at Camp Moremi, Gwist, captured the latest lesson. Mom’s got some work to do…🐆🐿️#desertdelta #leopard #wildlifeencounters
