If you are very lucky, you may even see an elusive jaguarundi, puma, jaguar, or ocelot. Animals you are likely to encounter on a night walk are foxes, opossums, kinkajous, agoutis, gibnuts and coatimundis. Do you like creepy crawlies? Here’s your opportunity see scorpions, spiders, snakes and various types of frogs that are prevalent in this area. There is something captivating about experiencing the rainforest at night. This activity involve a 30 minutes hike through the rainforest to get to the cave entrance however this is the only hike you do as you basically float back to starting point. The trail is pretty much flat and is about 1 mile at a leisurely pace, it should take about 30 minutes. Be mindful that the jungle trail has loose rocks, gravel and tree roots hence no flip flops is allowed. CONFIRMED SCARLET MACAW TOUR AND COCKSCOMB March 5th from HOPKINS. Space available.
Tours starts with a 45 minutes scenic drive from Hopkins to red bank village, an authentic Mayan community in southern Belize and seasonal home for the scarlet Macaws. Upon reaching red bank village, first tour will be the search of the elusive scarlet macaws in their natural feeding grounds. This tour also involves a 30minutes hike(each way) through the rainforest to get closer to these majestic birds. The search of Macaws and other exotic birds can take 2hours or a little more depending on the movement and behaviour of the birds. Thereafter, we drive to the Jaguar reserve for about an hour for more wildlife viewing and a waterfall hike as well as river tubing. We will have lunch in maya centre village before heading to cockscomb.
