Merry Belated Christmas to me!

Thanks to my friends at Burris Optics and Stoeger Canada Ltd for hooking me up. Hopefully I can find some time in the next couple of weeks to put these to the test.

So since getting home from Long Island, I have had several people reach out to me to ask how many birds I have left before completing the North American 41 Waterfowl Slam.

I have EIGHT birds left to go. I was hoping to get a couple more in New York, but sometimes the weather doesn't always cooperate with our plans and of course it's hunting, nothing is ever guaranteed! That being said I am super happy with checking off the four birds that I did get.

If I play my cards right I would love to have it done by this time next year, ie. January 2026. We shall see though.

The birds I have left are:
Black Duck
Mottled Duck
Black Bellied Whistling Duck
Fulvous Whistling Duck
Greater Scaup
Common Merganser
Red-Breasted Merganser
Common Eider

Now I am researching and trying to see where and who I can get these with, in the least amount of trips. If anyone knows of anyone, or any outfitters that can help me with these, please comment or send me a PM. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Surf Scoter - This is #33 of 41 for me.

This was a bird of the year, so he didn't have the dark black plumage, and colorful bill that a mature bird has, but hey it's another one checked off the list.

Black Scoter This is #32 of 41 for me.

For only having one color in it's plumage, this is such a beautiful bird. I didn't realize till I had them in my hands. I have some great pics of them to share later.

Tonight is the Hunter's Supermoon. Which happens to be the brightest and largest moon of 2024.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon reaching its closest distance to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than normal. There is three other supermoons in 2024, but none will be as large or as bright as this one.

The 20 Gauge Super Black Eagle 3 has been "taken care of business" the last few days.

Here was a chance for a triple on cranes, but the first one was already dead when I went to pull on it. I cleaned up on the next two shots though.

Well work has been busy the past two weeks, but I've still managed to find a little time to give the SBE3 20G a workout.
For as dry as it is here in central Alberta, the duck hunting still has been great.

One of Alberta's secret gems. Even though this is a National Park you would never know it by the amount of traffic, or I should say lack of traffic and tourists. If you've never been, it is a must see in Alberta.
