Almonte - a view from the river of the Wylie House.

The Wylie House, 81 Queen Street, Almonte, Ontario built in 1882, for James Dowdall, a local lawyer, known as the Wylie House,
after its second owner, John Wylie, a wealthy mill owner, and the Wylie family owned the home for 63 years. 1950, it was sold
to the Department of National Defence and became the Almonte Armouries with the addition of a bomb-shelter in the basement.
The government sold it to Ann and Gerry Wheatley in the late 1960s, and they owned the house during the 1970s and 1980s and then sold it to Judge James Hugessen his wife Mary Hugesson in 1990. They sold it to Rob Prior, who converted it to an inn.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Mississippi Valley Textile Museum

For almost 40 years, the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum has been preserving Almonte's uniquely textile-based past and present! This national historic site is the former Rosamond Woollen Company's administration and storage building, in use since the 1870s. Now, the building is an open and accessible space that welcomes all, with historical and contemporary art exhibits that feature diverse perspectives, experiences, and themes. With every program, they're unravelling history and weaving community. Right now, they're gearing up for their annual Fibrefest, a festival of fibre arts taking place on September 7 and 8!
