While technically an elf is not a puppet since they move around magically without the assistance of human hands, we think we should claim them this holiday season! Our friends at Destination Almonte have organized a search through 27 downtown Almonte shops for our mythical friends. You can pick up your stamp card in the December edition of theHumm, and enjoy shopping and searching at the same time! Sounds like a win/win to us!

It’s elf time!!

It’s elf time!!

Don't tell our weavers- but we found this sneaky elf hanging around the looms! 🤫 The search is on for the Almonte elves! Find them around businesses around town until December 20. Collect stamps in your passport from 20 businesses for your chance to win a fantastic prize! Turn in your passport to Mill Street Books, Almonte, where winners will be drawn on December 22.

Passports are available at participating businesses and in December's issue of theHumm!

Almonte Christmas Parade December 8th!

🎅 The Almonte Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 8th has a new route this year! 🎅

🟥 The new route:
Begins at the Rexall parking lot (430 Ottawa Street) at 5pm and will continue down Ottawa Street/Main Street to Mill Street. The parade will turn left on Mill Street, up to Bridge Street, where it will turn right and continue to the John Levi Community Centre.

This route was selected by the parade committee to ensure emergency access to the Almonte General Hospital, as well as providing a way for motorists to get across town.

Floats entering the parade are asked to register with staff when they arrive (approximately 45 minutes prior to the start). There is no cost and pre-registration is not required.

➡️ Any questions? Please email [email protected].

❗ Remember ❗ Free hot dogs and hot chocolate will be served by the Almonte Lions Club in the upper hall of the John Levi Community Centre after the parade as well as a free public skate.

The Scouts will also be collecting for Lanark County Food Bank-The Hunger Stop along the route, so bring along your non-perishable or cash donations!

Almonte - a view from the river of the Wylie House.

The Wylie House, 81 Queen Street, Almonte, Ontario built in 1882, for James Dowdall, a local lawyer, known as the Wylie House,
after its second owner, John Wylie, a wealthy mill owner, and the Wylie family owned the home for 63 years. 1950, it was sold
to the Department of National Defence and became the Almonte Armouries with the addition of a bomb-shelter in the basement.
The government sold it to Ann and Gerry Wheatley in the late 1960s, and they owned the house during the 1970s and 1980s and then sold it to Judge James Hugessen his wife Mary Hugesson in 1990. They sold it to Rob Prior, who converted it to an inn.
