If you’re staying in town this rainy weekend, wander over to the new gondolas at the Banff Train Station.

These gondolas are a nod to the future of Mt. Norquay Banff. Instead of the two-person North American chairlift, imagine a six-seater gondola, protecting skiers against snow, wind, and rain.

Colorado is putting trains back on track.

A new 25-year agreement with Union Pacific Railroad could bring daily passenger service from Denver to Winter Park Resort, Steamboat Springs, and Craig, three of Colorado’s most popular tourist destinations. It’s a major move toward easing highway congestion and offering a more sustainable way to reach the mountains.

From passenger rail in Colorado to car-free zones in Zermatt and shuttle-only access in Zion, popular destinations are cutting personal vehicle use to protect nature, reduce congestion, and enhance visitor experience. It makes sense.

Earlier this week, the Province presented the Calgary Airport Rail Connection Study to Calgary City Council. This study validated the recommended route aligns with the Calgary Airport to Banff Rail (CABR) project, emphasizing it “allow(s) for regional rail services to serve the airport in the future which would be delivered by private rail providers”—a key feature of Liricon/Plenary’s proposal.

In 2023, Calgary partnered with the Government of Alberta to launch this study, backed by a $3 million grant. This partnership shows a commitment to improving infrastructure and achieving regional transportation goals. The final report is expected in March.

As 2024 draws to a close, we express our gratitude to the community, our partners, and everyone who visited Alberta’s mountain parks and opted for sustainable transit whenever possible. This year, we reached important milestones and made meaningful progress in our efforts to reduce the number of cars in Banff.

We look forward to a productive 2025, filled with opportunities to drive innovation and foster impactful change.
