Who says research can’t be fun? Mike had a great ride up the Eastern Shore out of Halifax this morning, exploring some of the books and crannies and lovely beaches along the way. Sadly, the tide was high so the search for sea glass has to wait. A quick coffee and a delicious pastry at and a quick zoom by .dining tells us we need to eat there ASAP.

Many cities have loads of history just under the surface. It may be in an inconvenient location, or not very well known, but it’s there. After logging over 10,000km of research already this summer, our workhorse needed an oil change. Since I had to wait around for at least an hour, I looked at what was near the dealership. Turns out right around the corner was Fairview Cemetery, where 150 victims of the Titanic were laid to rest. In the foreground on the right was James McGrady, the 330th and last victim to be pulled from the frigid waters. A terrible tragedy, but a small victory and some much needed closure for many families who lost loved ones. History isn’t always happy, but it is always fascinating.

Oh hi! We slipped into Nova Scotia last week and spent quality time with loved ones in Halifax. Now we’ve popped back up in the Gaspereau Valley for an intensive three day vineyard blitz. Tidal Bay is a cool climate winemaker’s dream 😍 and a traditional method sparkling lover’s jackpot! 🥂

We’ve been keeping things light here the last few days. We have a house in Charlottetown for 10 days, are meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones abs doing some day trips out of the city. When you are on the road for a huge chunk of time, things can start to feel a bit disjointed, and this is our opportunity to catch up as well as look ahead and plan our next steps. These beautiful mussels were from , only a couple of blocks from our house. So simple and so delicious!

This. This is the essence and the heart of East of 80. Family and friends all gathered around a table together sharing a meal, stories and love. I feel truly privileged to be welcomed into this tight knit group and to call them my family as well. It’s experiences like this that we want you to be a part of too. On a side note, it was charmingly hilarious that and I were at the kids table when we are 39 and 41.

Today was awesome. We stopped on for a visit at , owned by some family friends. They have a great crew and we are collaborating on some ideas for some fantastic exclusive experiences. I (sort of) overcame my lifelong fear of bees and suited up to see the hives. According to Albert Einstein, if the world lost bees, we would only survive for four years. We prefer not to test that theory. Support your local apiaries!

Finishing up our stay on the Acadian Peninsula, we had an absolutely fabulous meal at . Five absolutely flawless courses, excellent wine pairing and great local beers and cocktails. On our list for sure! Now we are on to explore currently staying at one of the family cottages and perhaps looking for some land of our own!

Today we’re making our way up the coast towards Caraquet, ending out near Lamèque for the next six nights. This region is the heart of Acadian culture in New Brunswick, and it shows. From brightly coloured houses painted in the colours of the Acadian flag, to lawn decorations, proudly displayed traditional names and some perfectly placed decorative lobster traps. We had a dip at the beach in Pokeshaw, where you can also see a fantastic cormorant nesting area, followed by lunch in the hamlet of Maisonnette. Wish you were here!

It’s been a long journey to get here, but we’ve finally arrived. We are thrilled to be in and also so happy to finally introduce our pup to the ocean for the first time. She is currently snoozing by the window as the sun sets. It’s going to be a great summer packed with research and digging up new destinations, people and food.
