A new bird has taken up residence in my garden and its song is so beautiful I wanted to share it. I think it’s a Northern Waterthrush. Can you birders weigh in and let me know?
In these shots from my garden this spring, you'll see the chopped bark mulch I've applied. I did this last fall as part of my plan to build healthy, organically rich soil in my new garden. This property has red silty clay soil that needs organic matter. I will keep adding mulch, garden clippings and my own compost, every spring and fall for as long as I garden here. Feed your soil, and the plants will look after themselves. Happy gardening!
Growing from seed is well underway! I start by organizing the seed packets according to their best start date. After being planted in seed trays, they go on a heating pad and are kept under a dome to provide the moisture and warmth most seeds like for germination. (The seeds who like cold are outside). Once the seeds have germinated, they wait under lights until they are at the right stage for transplanting. The last photo shows trays of seedlings that have been transplanted into individual cells. In most cases, I will keep them in these containers until it's time to take them outside for their life in the garden. So much fun! I hope you try it.
