**** PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUS****

Hello everyone. After about ten machines going through the ice in the last week or two and having been personally involved in the rescue mission of a few gentlemen yesterday I felt the need to make this post.

The ice conditions this year are like none I’ve ever seen. With the amount of snow we got so quickly landing on top of what was great but only 4-6” of ice it’s created some very unusually unsafe conditions.

In yesterday’s case the riders knew better but seeing marks from someone else decided it was safe to follow them. They quickly realized they were in a bad situation and while a couple were able to make it they got to the other end to realize that two of them weren’t with them. The first machine actually went down nose first from what I understand, like a submarine. That’s unheard of in my experience and resulted in the rider being instantly submerged. The second machine stopped to help and when they both got on it to leave that machine also went down resulting in both riders now treading in a slushy mess at a depth of approximately 50’. Luckily they managed to get out again but not without a hell of a struggle. We were fishing on a nearby lake and found out fairly quickly but even still by the time we got there they were standing on shore soaked and obviously frozen. Got a fire going faster than I thought possible to warm them up but quickly realized it was time to get them out of the bush so off they went. A couple of us hugged the shoreline like everyone out there should be doing right now and went to mark the holes. I had my floater suit on and ventured about 150’ off shore to where the holes were. About ten feet from the hole, I’m slushing through water upto my knees one soft step at a time. My right foot stepped right into the lake. Not like I broke through ice, more like there wasn’t any there just water covered in slush. Luckily I didn’t go through myself.

There’s a lot to be thought about here..

If you don’t know, don’t go. Just because someone else has doesn’t mean they made it to the other end safely. If your that person on the big old mountain sled with huge paddle track who knows he could cross it in the summer anyway and taking that risk don’t forget about the ones who are going to see your tracks and assume it’s safe. It’s still on them in the end but something to consider. It’s not like we’re heading to work and late so what’s the rush, hug the shoreline and enjoy the view.

Anyway by now I hope everyone get the point. I can’t stress this enough, please pass this along share with everyone and take it more than seriously. Unfortunately I feel someone is going to get hurt before it truly sinks in.

Side note: don’t ask me who it was or fill up the comments with they deserved it and what a dumb decision and such. We’ve all made decisions we regret and clearly they know that’s what happened. Luckily they are safe and maybe their story is going to be the one that saves another. That’s how it sometimes goes.

Have a good day and please please be safe out there. Don’t forget the ones coming to rescue have families of our own being put at risk.
