Mosquito Repellent Candles πŸ‹
Did you know you probably have most of the ingredients for these mosquito repellent candles already in your home? Yep!
No mosquitoes yet?
Then save this post dear Cookers.
Not only are these candles super easy to make, but the supplies and ingredients are also pretty simple.

How to:
First slice one lemon and one lime (this will be enough for two candles).

Then add a couple of slices of lemon and lime to the jar.

Next add a couple of sprigs of basil.

Then fill jar with water up to threads of the jar (almost to the top as shown)

After that, add in 10 – 15 drops of lemongrass oil.

Now stir.

Then add in floating candle.

Finally, light the candle and enjoy a pest free summer! πŸ’œπŸ§‘πŸ’™πŸ’›

Thank you to all those who have been limiting mowing frequency and making a difference for Wildlife, allowing locally native flowers across the Northern Hemisphere, including Dandelions (in Eurasia), to provide vital early forage for Pollinators πŸ¦‹ 🐝

Dandelions (genus Taraxacum) are just one of a wide range of native wild flowering plants that flower early across the planet, they are in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as dandelions found in Eurasia and introduced into North America in the mid-1600s where they have spread across the continent, the two commonplace species in the wider world, T. officinale and T. erythrospermum, were introduced from Europe and now propagate as wildflowers in those regions. Both species are edible in their entirety. The common name dandelion comes from French "dent-de-lion", meaning "lion's tooth". Like other members of the family Asteraceae, they have very small flowers collected together into a composite flower head. Each single flower in a head is called a floret. In part due to their abundance along with being a generalist species, dandelions are one of the most vital early spring nectar sources for a wide host of pollinators that themselves are critical to pollination of later flowering plants.

Bring on the weeeeeds πŸ˜„πŸŒ±

πŸŒΌπŸ’› β€œHello, I'm a dandelion.
A lot of people call me a w**d but I'm a friend and come to help you!

My flowers are the first food for insects after hibernation and unlike most other plants, I have pollen AND nectar, not merely one OR the other! And I am generous with them! πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‰
When you see me, remember that I'm the ONLY one who wants and can grow in that particular spot. Because:
Either the soil is too compact / hard / stomped and I want to loosen it for you with my roots.
Or there is too little calcium in the soil - don't worry, I will replenish that for you with the dying of my leaves.
Or the soil is too acidic. But I will also improve that for you if you give me the chance.
Or a mixture of the above reasons, of course. 😊
I'm here because your soil needs my help so best you let me grow without disturbing me! When everything is fixed, I will disappear again, I promise!
Are you trying to remove me prematurely with my root? However meticulous you are, I will return 2x as strong! Just until your soil is improved.
You can even tell by my growth at which stage my help is at. If my leaves are flat on the ground then I'm far from ready but if they all reach up then I'm already a long way on my way.
Something completely different is that I am 1 of the first bloomers in spring so I will announce spring / summer for you.
During the day when it's hot, I open my flowers but in the evening when it cools off I close them again quickly. In fact, if it's not hot enough during the day I won't open them at all!
My flowers are even delicious for you people by the way, did you know? I used to be called β€²β€²honey (or gold) of the poorβ€²β€² because my flowers are so sweet in e.g. jam, sauce or salad! The internet is full of recipes - check them out.

But wait until the end of May or later before you start picking and even then, don't pick everything yet! The biodiversity and bees will be very grateful!”
