Heads up for those flying with Air Canada in the future...

Air Canada has made a significant change to their seating policy that travelers need to be aware of.

As of April 24, 2024, Here’s what customers can expect...

Automatic seat assignment: When customers begin the check-in process, Air Canada will automatically assign a seat “free of charge” for those who have not purchased a seat in advance.

If they wish to change their automatically assigned seat, they can do so - for a fee.

Customers with Aeroplan Tier Status benefits are not impacted by this new process.

So if you are booking Standard or Basic Fares, you also need to pre-purchase seat selection if you want to sit next to your travel partner(s).

These days flights are flying with almost all seats full. If you wait until check-in to be assigned the “free of charge” seats, it’s highly likely you’ll be getting middle seats & highly unlikely you’ll be sitting with your person.

Note: Standard Seat Selection continues to be included with Flex Fare and above.
