Although the museum is closed for the season, today we remember the brave servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. Our War Years exhibit houses many great artifacts and photos representing that time in our history and we share just a portion of that in this post - LEST WE FORGET.

Hard to believe it has been 15 weeks since we welcomed our summer staff Jenna and Tianna on board. Harder to believe, that in 5 short days, they both leave us to head to Edmonton to pursue their careers. Jenna to a practicum at an Edmonton Hospital and Tianna to her first year at Grant MacEwan University. If you get a chance, stop in to wish them well. Thank you Jenna, Thank you Tianna, so much, it has been a great summer ❤️

Great turn out for the Historic Homes Tour this afternoon and a wonderful gathering back in the historic CPR station at the museum for tea and home made cookies. Everyone was raving about the tour, swapping stories of their experience and looking forward to next year. Kudos to Britney and Rob Robertson and Anola Laing for organizing the tour and to all those who opened their homes. Also to Bonnie Downey, Cynthia Wannamaker, Trina Watson and Betty H***e for serving up Tea and goodies on behalf of the Friends of the Museum Society.
Lastly, thank you to all who bought tickets, enjoyed the tour and made the afternoon a success!

We were so pleased to welcome and tour representatives from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta at the museum last Friday. The Foundation awarded a grant of $6,000 toward the restoration of the WWII British Commonwealth Air Training Base #15 Claresholm, Link Trainer. (Pilot flight simulator)
From the Foundation, pictured from left, are Board member Carmelle Steel, (Claresholm) and Executive Director Charleen Davidson.
Thanking them on behalf of the Friends of the Claresholm Museum Society, which applied for the grant and whose volunteers completed the restoration, is Society President Bonnie Downey.
It is very special indeed that this addition to our “Wings Over Claresholm” exhibit is being officially unveiled this weekend in 2024, the 100 anniversary of the RCAF.

So much fun both building and entering our 2024 parade float for the Fair Days parade today. With “Country Fair” as the parade theme we mixed carnival with museum history by adding two mini link trainers to represent a fair ride.
So grateful and proud to have received first place in our categorie and also Grande Aggregate winner for the second year in a row. A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who added their skills and creativity as well as a ton of hours to build this amazing float!!

Claresholm & District Museum and Visitor Information Centre

Established in 1969, the Claresholm & District Museum has long been committed to preserving the history of this unique region of southern Alberta. The museum houses thousands of artifacts and archival documents relating to the history of Claresholm & District.

Artifacts tell many stories from Blackfoot culture, to the arrival of the railway, homesteading, farming and cattle ranching and the development and use of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan’s Service Flying Training School #15.

Recent additions include the Louise McKinney Gallery in the Station Building. This Gallery pays homage to Claresholm resident Louise McKinney and the Famous Five’s endeavours in the fight for women’s rights in Canada.
