This past year has brought into sharper focus that the Greatest Generation truly was just that. So many seniors expressed shock this past year regarding the selfishness of so many during the pandemic and how little sacrifice people were willing to make to keep those around them safe - the anti-maskers, the anti-vaxers, the queue-jumpers, the people who thought they were above the rules and looked for loop holes, the constant whining about restrictions while not following them... I agree with them that if there was a World War now, humanity would be at a loss. Few have even been willing to do what it takes to keep people in their own city safe; those same people would not bravely head overseas to fight for those they haven’t even met.
As we remember the 77th anniversary of D-Day this weekend and those who fought not for fame or recognition, but because it was the "right thing to do”, I am more appreciative and in awe of these men and women than ever. Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for putting the greater good ahead of yourself.
