Whenever embraced by the mountains I think of Śiva (Śhiva)... the embodiment of pure and cosmic consciousness.
Śiva aligns with and governs the loka/plane of atmosphere. Countless yogic tales depict Śiva in deep meditating atop high peaks, where the atmosphere is the thin and the veil of illusion grows faint. Such environments foster a natural resonance of this state, making it more effortless to pierce deepr states of meditaiton and heightened consciousness.

Āyurveda is the science of self-healing, and Yoga is the science of self-realization. These two sister sciences are often woven together and complement each other, supporting a holistic and inclusive system for elevating life and consciousness. 🌐
The roots of the word Āyurveda are:
Āyuh = life
Veda = knowledge
Āyurveda has its origins in ancient India and is believed to be the oldest healing system in human history. It is based on the understanding of creation and the realization that every individual life is a microcosm of the greater macrocosm. Āyurveda is designed to enhance the quality and longevity of life, fostering abundant health to naturally align body, mind, and spirit. 🌱
The foundational concept of Āyurveda is based on the three doṣas (sounds like doṣhas): Vāta, Pitta, and Kapha, representing different combinations of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and ether). Each individual carries a unique doṣic constitution. 🌈
Āyurvedic practices encompass dietary guidelines, herbal remedies, detoxification methods, and lifestyle recommendations tailored to an individual's unique constitution (Prakṛiti) and imbalances (Vikṛiti). 🍃

🌞 Sūrya = Sun
In modern yoga, Surya has garnered popularity from the beloved Sun Salutations.
While we commonly associate Surya with the external Sun that rises each day, its more profound significance lies as a symbol of the inner Sun residing within us. You see, Sūrya is really a metaphor for our highest, most pure and truest 'Self'*.
* Make sure you catch that capital 'S' there, a significant differentiator in yoga, where the lowercase 's' represents the lower self, often entangled in thoughts, emotions, and ego. It's crucial to grasp this understanding when delving into yogic texts, as it fundamentally alters the context. 🧘♂️
Practicing Sun Salutations is not only an act of honoring the Sun in the sky but an honoring of the inner light of your Self. Imperishable, whole, profound, and connected to source! 🌅✨

cakra = wheel, disk, spinning vortex of energy (see more below)
Another highly mispronounced term in the yoga realm, right up there with āsana, is the word "cakra.". Cut yourself some slack, though; this mispronunciation and incorrect spelling have become so deeply ingrained in society that rectifying it requires a genuine and series effort. Despite knowing its correct spelling as "cakra," I often catch myself writing 'chakra' 😅
While speculative, I wonder if traditional yogis adopted the 'chakra' spelling to aid Westerners, like me, in avoiding a pronunciation reminiscent of a 'cackle cackle' witch's laughter 😂.
The Vedas, dating back to 6500 BCE, as per astrological findings in the Ṛg Veda, mark the first reference to cakras.
Cakras are profound energy centers in the astral (subtle) body, underlying the physical body's life energy. Though there are hundreds, if not thousands, the focus typically centers on the 7 primary cakras along the astral spine, suṣumnā nāḍī (suṣhumnā).
The first five primary cakras are associated with the 5 elements:
Mūlādhāra Cakra | Root = 🌍 Earth
Svādhiṣṭhāna Cakra | Sacral Cakra = 💧 Water
Maṇipūra Cakra | Navel = 🔥 Fire
Anāhata Cakra | Heart = 🌬️ Air
Viśuddha Cakra | Throat = 🌌 Ether"
Ājñā Cakra | Third Eye (located between the brows and not in the centre of the forehead) = Mind, Beyond the elements
Sahasrāra Cakra | Crown = Beyond the elements, consciousness
Yoga incorporates practices like posture, breathwork, sense withdrawal, concentration, and meditation to deepen our connection with these energetic cakras of life.

🧘♀️ Dive into Dhāraṇā: Shielding the Mind from Tech Overload | Terminology Tuesday, Episode 4
When I stumbled upon this jaw-dropping statistic, a mix of surprise and inevitability hit me. The pattern was evident—a consequence of technology's widespread impact on our lives. While tech marvels have graced us, the frenetic pace and excess have mirrored a decline in mental well-being, a subtle erosion of the mind.
As the mind weakens, mental health challenges rise, the aura and electromagnetic field wane, and the nervous system loses resilience. This, in turn, affects the subtle nervous system, impeding our capacity for more advanced yogic practices and also makes living life more difficult.
(I wrote a blog post about the technological impact back in 2021 with 3 tips to counter it - I'll leave the link at the bottom of this post)
While this statistic may ring alarm bells, it also reminds us of the value of vigilantly supporting the mind. The silver lining lies in a holistically aligned yoga practice—a potent counterforce to external influences. Yoga, a timeless science, intelligently safeguards the mind, and here enters Dhāraṇā (धारणा).
Dhāraṇā = Often translated as concentration, goes beyond mere focus. Rather it's focused alignment with what is beneficial and auspicious. It's the prerequisite for meditation, it's the continuous flow of concentration that guides us into a meditative state.
Through regular Dhāraṇā practice, the mind regains strength, countering the relentless external stimuli. Dhāraṇā restores the tranquility of the mind, protecting us from becoming victims of the technological age.
* Pronunciation note—the 'Dha' carries an aspirated 'da' sound, and the 'ṇ' involves placing the tip of the to the roof of the mouth. This produce a distinct vibratory energy. Understanding these diacritical marks is crucial in Sanskrit, as is understanding the sound vibrations themselves. The lack of awareness in these
